Default Tracking 2017 Z06

Just wondering if any of the 2017 A8 Z06 owners in southern states have tracked their Z06.

Now that ZR1 future is unclear, I am thinking about replacing my 2016 Z06 with a 2017 model before summer gets here, I am hoping the overheating issues are resolved.

I think you'll remain disappointed with a 2017 A8 with regard to track day cooling issues.

I absolutely would not trade a 16 for a 17 with the hopes of seeing any substantial difference in an A8. The manual will see a bit of help from the added cooler but that is a cheap and easy upgrade, even if you have the dealer install it. There have been no substantial changes to the A8 aside from the taller lid and potentially slightly tweaked tune.

Why would they announce that the cooling issues were being addressed for 2017 and then not make said changes? I'm not trying to be a smart *** here, I genuinely want to know the answer to that question.

I agree with others feedback. There is absolutely no improvement on engine cooling for A8 Z06. Unfortunately your only option is an aftermarket cooling solution if you are sticking with A8 Z06.

They did make changes, but only to the manuals with the addition of the secondary cooler mounted where the automatics already have a trans cooler. There is no real estate available on the autos or this would likely help them as well.

I assume with the addition of the taller lid comes bigger intercooler bricks. Which in turn will help the charge air temps and heat soak. Obviously doesn't do much for water or oil temp thou. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Unless 1 of the nose coolers is for the intercooler & the other for an oil cooler???

If you want to track your corvette, why not get a C7 GS?

If you need to be the fastest on the track, you will need to spend about $100k on one of these:

I think for about the same amount of money you'd lose by trading it in you could buy and install the G-Speed cooling setup and have a much more track ready car.

The C7Z M7 doesn't really have any performance issues and has more power coming off corners so gets a big advantage coming onto a straight due to bringing more speed at the beginning of the straight. Just like in drag racing the car that is moving faster at the start has a hell of an advantage and it takes a lot more HP to overcome it. It may only be a 2 mph advantage at the start but if you have equal acceleration from the starting point that 2 mph is the same as a 3 ft per second advantage and if it takes you 20 seconds to travel to the other end of the straight the advantage works out to 40 ft further ahead of the other guy. Throw a few corners together like that and it isn't long before the other guy can't be seen in the mirror. That is why speed through corners and speed at the exit of a corner are so important.

Just to make sure I understand correctly...A8 vs M7 (both cars I'm talking 2016)...the M7 is better with cooling because instead of the transmission cooler, it has a second radiator?

Has anyone reported heat problems on the track with the 2016 or earlier Z06 that's an M7?

I believe that 2017 M7 has the secondary cooler.

2016 does not, but easy add on. The 2017 also has the taller lid and tilted cooling bricks (M7 and A8)

look for forum member dabigsnake. He actually owned and tracked his 2015 and now his 2017. He said cooling was a big improvement over his 2015. he has actual hands on experience of both pre and post cooling changes.

Get an M7 of any year. If earlier than '17 add secondary radiator. A8 is going to overheat just as fast regardless of the built year. M7 is going to overheat just as fast regardless of the year as long as you have the secondary radiator installed. The M7 will allow you to run in 14* hotter ambient. Does't sound like a lot, but for most it has to be at least 100* out to overheat with M7 compared to 86* with A8.

Forget about the reviews on here, all that matters is what hardware there is onboard. I can find you a subjective review on here to support anything.

Both cars a 2016 the M7 typically runs cooler engine and coolant temps because the A8 race shift algorithm is very aggressive and keeps the engine at higher RPM for a higher percentage of the time. The A8 (all year Z06) has an auxiliary transmission cooler mounted in the nose of the car to keep the transmission itself from overheating. '15 non-Z06 A8 cars did not have this auxiliary cooler and had some issues on hot track days.

GM came out with a secondary engine coolant radiator that mounts in the same place in the nose for the M7 cars. This was included stock for 2017 cars. Since the A8 cars already have the transmission cooler there, they cannot take advantage of the secondary engine coolant radiator there.

As far as aftermarket goes:
I believe LG Motorsports has a larger rear transmission cooler that apparently keeps the A8 cool enough, allowing the A8 cars to run a secondary radiator setup in the nose.

G-speed, LG, and TIKT all sell twin heat exchanger systems that place heat exchangers in the "chins" on either side of the grill to increase airflow to the main radiator setup and increase overall cooling capacity.

Two choices:

1) M7 with GMPP auxiliary cooler
2) A8 with aftermarket cooling solution for +$8K
