Default Track Day prep

Just finished at the dealer:

1) Rear diff flushed - Mobil1 Delvac with GM friction modifier
2) Transmission flushed - ATF4
3) Brake fluid flushed - Castrol SRF
4) Oil change - Synthetic 5w50 (not 10w50)
5) New brake pads - DTC 60/70
6) Installed GMPP brake ducts and backing plates
7) Previously installed GMPP auxiliary cooler
8) Favorite part, numbers inbound now

Up next a trip to DSC for the mag controller and alignment.

Very nice! Looks like you will be all set to start the next season. I'm working on mine now.

Hitting the track for the first time in a Z06 so I'll be burning up the stock ZP's and learning how the Z handles. After these are done I'll go to the MPSS non-run flats. Once I get comfortable after 2 or 3 events I'll be looking for dedicated wheel/slick combo.

What's your first event going to be?

BTW, I drove a friend's Z51 that had the non runflat MPSS on them. I didn't really care for them but I can't quite put my finger on why. The car just seemed to move around a lot on them. I know the construction is different than the run flat MPSS that were designed for the C7.

I had standard super sports on my CTS-V. Very soft squishy side walls. It helped daily driving comfort but I emphatically would NOT want them on my Z06.

^ this.

I would have preferred that the car came without RFTs tbh, but it was designed around the characteristics of the RFT MPSS/MPSC2's, and imho when you change out the tyre to a non-RFT, you could potentially upset the handling 'gestalt' that GM designed into the car.

VIR in March is the first event. Clearly street tires will be limiting....probably not a bad thing for my first few events.

If it's the TrackDaze open track event I'll be there too.

Not sure if you're running the Cup2 or Super Sports but both are surprisingly capable - especially when fresh.

Yup, Track Daze. I'll be running MPSS ZP run flats, not SC2's. Just want to get familiar with the car. Coming out of the heavier CTS-V running 2:15's on slicks I want to inch my way towards the Z's capabilities.

My first tracking of my Z was if the charity event in Feb 16 at VIR. I'm heading there this year as well. I Need to look into what track daze entails. Of course, the charity event is not nearly the same as open course. I'd love to track the Z there regularly but the cost of too high for me at this point. Maybe some day soon. Enjoy the track at VIR it's sick fun!!

Yup VIR is my 'home track'. I've run close to 15 events there. The Z is way faster and way more capable, hence my cautious approach to discovering its limits.

Have you taken the Spring Mountain Corvette Owner's school yet? It may not help an experienced driver's skills as much as it does a novice but it does let you play with a car like you own and provide some great information on how to set the car's systems for the track.

For instance you should run in Track Mode Sport 1 unless it is wet until you get used to the car and how PTM mode works. Wet mode works great on a wet track and can provide a very good lesson on how PTM works before you try it on a dry track.

Haven't done Spring Mountain but want to. Going to hunt down Poorsha at VIR for some instruction.
