Default Ground effects question

Do side skirts and a stage 2 front splitter add any down force or improve aero in any way?

I'd say no, and I bought the aftermarket parts mostly for looks anyway, but I was curious if they do anything? (other than rock chip protection)

I'd say no, not enough to benefit the average driver in any way at least. The stage 3 spoiler might be different however.

I read some place that the aero 2 side skirts help channel air into the rear brake cooling ducts. The front splitter does provide a good level of down force but of course only at high speeds not in around town driving. On the track is where you would notice the difference. On my 17' GS I added the stage 3 front and back and at high speeds on the expressway I can feel the car is like more planted... may be it's my imagination ROFL.

Front splitter and rear spoiler add a lot of down force. They also add drag! Side skirts on a C6 added about 12-14 pounds of down force on each side of spoiler. On a C7 the side skirts add several pounds of down force (3-5) because most of the air goes into the brake cooling duct.

The Splitter with Stage 3 end caps and the rear spoiler with the wicker bill all the way up add enough downforce in the 60 to 75 mph range that is noticeable in turns. Understeer drops noticeably and the car is easier to drive than one that doesn't have the down force.

At highway speeds in cruise control just removing the center wicker can add 1 mpg at a constant 75 mph. I haven't pulled the Stage 3 End Caps yet but I suspect there is at least another 1 mpg to be gained by switching to the Stage 2 End Caps.

This would explain the reason for the cutaway towards the rear of the side skirt.
