Just left my dealer and they said they should know by the end of April if GM is updating or planning to change anything on the 2018.Going to wait and put in an order once they start taking orders for the 2018. what date does that usually happen?

Your dealer was probably referencing the NCM Bash which is late April. I believe 4/24. No guarantee that any of the changes specific to the Z06 will be announced then. Especially considering the planned factory re-tooling shut down this summer.
June 5 is the first day they will start production for 2018. They will built until end of July. Then plant will be shut down for 3 months to get new paint booth up and running. They will start production for 2018 again afterwards. I will guess 2018 ZR1 to start production maybe Jan/Feb.
Awesome thank you . Hope I will be able to get my order in for the first batch

If the new ZR1 arrives for 2018 I doubt the ZO6 would get any serious mods.

If it was me and I could wait a few months I would wait until the new paint booth was up and running. The assumption is this new booth will hopefully fix a lot of the paint issues many owners see today.

Corvette production STILL is experiencing paint problems in 2017?
What kind of problems?

My 2014 AW Z51 had paint issues where the front clip rubbed the hood panel next to the headlights on both sides. Paint bubbled from rubbing and peeled. Has been repainted twice by dealer. First time I think they tried to just fix the spots. Second time, they resprayed the entire front clip and it has been fine since.
Bring up to current time... I went to to my local dealer that had three different AW Z06s I wanted to look at. All three of them had the exact same issue my 2014 had with the paint is rubbing/bubbling on the front clip near the headlights. That's horrible! Three years later and still have the same issue with not enough space between the panel to keep from rubbing! I want a 2018 Z06, but assume this issue won't be resolved and it will be the first thing I pick at the dealer about.
To my eye all corvettes to date have paint issues from the factory. Orange peel. Uneven clear. Dust in clear.
I knew this when I ordered my 2017 and planned for the correction. I wanted blade silver over twilight blue and worried it wouldn't be offered otherwise I would have waited for the 2018.

Hopefully. My '17 came with chipped paint on the rear quarter panel

I just ordered a 2018 ZO6 last week, should be getting the build date pretty soon hopefully. I was told that I can probably expect delivery by late July, early August. As I understand it, if a car isn't built by the time of the shutdown, it won't be built until November.

what shut down? when does the plant shut down and for how long?

Those aren't paint shop issues as the panels are painted separately in the paint shop. They don't get a chance to rub until they are put together on the assembly line. Plastic panels are harder to control from a dimensional standpoint and they may have pushed too far trying to match the fit metal panels permit.
My 15Z had one paint imperfection that I noticed right after I took delivery. Right along the edge of the hood opening on the right fender the clear coat looked like it had holes in it. The dealer was willing to fix it but after having a detailer and a paint shop look at it I decided to follow their suggestion and not do anything about the flaw. It was only noticeable under certain lighting conditions and based on what I was told any repair would probably come out worse due to the nature of trying to match the black paint on the rest of the car.
I did have the paint start peeling where the side vents are mounted in the fender and the body shop touched them up Vs painting the complete fenders because of the paint match issue. I can't see the touch up even though I know exactly where to look so they did a good job.
