Katech repairs damaged engine from improperly specified camshaft package
My friend bought a 2015 Z06 A8 last year built by another shop. It's equipped with a Procharger F1R, Procharger intake, and cam. 900rwhp claimed by the seller. Put it on our dyno - 760rwhp. I think the 900rwhp number is way over-inflated, but I also think there are a few things we can fix and upgrade. So we started with our ported cylinder heads. Pulled the heads off and found trash in the engine. Either the seal to retainer clearance was not adequate or the valvetrain dynamics are horrible and it's throwing the retainer into the seal. This resulted in seal material including some of the metal to be spread throughout the engine. Luckily we caught this early enough and it didn't do major damage to the engine, but we have torn the engine completely down to wash everything. It's getting our proven camshaft package featuring the LPE GT35 cam and our spring/retainer package to go along with it.

How do you know it was an "improperly specified camshaft package"? How did you make that determination?
Do you know the history of the car? How it was used/abused? Was routine maintenance done on it? ??????
........as we say in the industry: One man's hot rod is another man's junk.

The bottom of the valve spring retainer is impacting the seal. It is improperly specified. Regardless of use or history.

WOW... What a mess... Especially on a brand new car....
Valve stems look beat all to **** too..... Looks like they used one stock retainer they had laying around or something when they lost one...
It would be a good idea to check the valve job, valve run out, guide clearance and ofcourse set everything up correct.
**** like that ^^^ happens when shops just throw springs/retainers in and don't actually measure installed heights, coil bind, retainer to guide/seal clearance etc...
Not to mention all of these guys throwing .640-.650" lift cams in them, especially with stock rocker arms....
Glad yall decided to tear it down for a full inspection/clean up.

This car was originally done by us as mentioned. Made upper 9xx's rwhp on 22 psi. Katech only logged around 16psi. Clearly alot has changed since we saw it 10 months ago.
The cam is a BTR LT blower cam 226 240 .640 .624 116lsa as well as BTR .660 Dual spring kit with titanium retainers specific for the LT4 head. The intake and exhaust retainer are different on the LT4 spring kits. There were no spares thrown on there like someone suggested above. You clearly have not seen a LT4 BTR spring kit before if you think the retainers are incorrect.
Greg,
Funny how you come back on here just to talk about us. We have not seen the car in 10 months. You picked it up making upper 9XX's rwhp on 22psi. You were upset it didnt make 1100rwhp and go 8's. You spent around $4k shy of your $20k number you like to round up to. You basically just paid parts on that build. You picked it up and drove back to NY saying you were going to have your friend come up and swap out the HPFP and make more power.
Then months later you contact me wanting to buy my C7Z with our bolt on setup since you sold yours and made a good profit. After trying to pay me well below market value for my C7Z you ended up with a ctsv.
Now you mention your friend. He took to another shop and they determined the cause had nothing to do with us. I have messages from your friend saying they found something else and it was nothing to do with the work performed at HPA.
