There are some pretty recent and lengthy topics on detectors here. I'd do a search. I don't use one, but there are Valentine and Passport fan groups. The consensus is they work, but you gotta still be aware and laser is still a problem.
They are only worth buying if you excessively speed and aren't aware of your surroundings. Nothing is full proof. I run a Passport Max 360 with Escort Live and WAZE when I am in my Vette. I run mine off the 12V power off the rear view mirror using a power tap. Nice clean install.

Sounds like a nice install, who makes the power tap?
A good radar detector is worth buying. Of course the radar detectors also pick up laser. And a good laser jammer/scrambler/shifter etc. is good to buy also. Laser must be shot from a fixed location, either on foot or out the patrol car window. I would not buy a Valentine1. I have one and also have a passport. If there is a cop ahead running radar the passport goes "KA band". The Valentine1 goes "beep". Also do NOT buy a K40 as they are ineffective. I live in VA and called the K40 people who admitted their unit was not immune to the police radar detector detector (Spectre) and so they recommended that I NOT buy a K40. Shops love to sell it as they make a fortune installing it. I was a Utube test of the K40 and it did not jam any laser though they claim to. When I went into my shop and talked to them about they K40 they said the newest model is 4 times more effective. I figure 4 X zero is zero.
i use the escort redline very good unit, but nothing will save you from
instant on
Not true. True in some cases. One day on the road suddenly my detector would beep once and quit. Then beep once and quit. So becoming suspicious I slowed the car. As I went over a hill there was a police officer, on foot who whipped up a radar gun and shot my car. Of course with me slowed the officer had no reason to stop me. So the beeps I picked up were the instant on radar as the officer shot the cars ahead of me. If I had had no one ahead of me he would have caught me or if I had ignored the rather feeble signal of my detector.

Yep, Another one here with an Escort. You can go cheap but lots of false alarms. Just my .02. I have the NEW Escort iX model with Blendmount under the mirror and wired professionally (GM does not recommend the mirror tap wiring although many have done it).
I like the added protection of a detector and went with the new Escort that does a good job filtering false alarms. It is excellent on Ka bands (CHP use Ka in CA) but Laser & Instant On is very difficult to defeat.
Definitely worth it. I'm using an Escort Redline with a Blendmount bracket and mirror power tap. Of course nothing is ever 100% safe, but if you think of it as an additional tool along with being aware of your surroundings, it can certainly save your bacon.
Sounds like a nice install, who makes the power tap?
Blendmount makes a 9" and 12" power tap. If you plan to use suction cups to mount it (as I do with my V1), get the 12" tap. the 9" is too short. Ask me how I know. . I personally don't think the mounting bracket is needed, but that is just my approach as I swap the V1 between two cars, each hardwired with a tap. --Bob

I use a Valentine and have it set to only notify on Laser and KA. Here in Ca that's all I have to worry about. No false alarms, every notification is the police. Great range even here in the mountains.
Hi all. I'm looking at radar detectors for my Z06 cuz I can't keep it under speed limit. Stupid car keeps going faster and faster
Anyway, I looked at the Escort Passport 9500ic that is concealed mount with front and back laser shifters. Looks like it's the best. But it ain't cheap either. Anyone has any experience on them? Are they worth the money? What's about the claim that they'd pay for the ticket if you get one? Anyone ever get their ticket paid for? Thx in advance.
I have the K40 radar detector and laser diffusers installed in my Z06. I just tested the system and was able to pick up police radar long before I was anywhere in sight of him. After several attempts and adjustments of placement of the laser diffusers I was able to pass undetected by his laser. However, on my last pass he was able to bounce laser off my side view mirror and get a reading. I've mentioned previously that they have a new laser unit that can zoom in on you from over a quarter mile away. For me the system is just another toy. If you want to drive like an idiot, eventually they will get you no matter what you have. Be careful and good luck.
I use my Escort 360 w/Escort Live & Waze. There is enough constant traffic in my area to where this combo is nearly foolproof...you must stay aware, though, and gain experience over time using any setup that you choose for it to be most effective.
I also use an updated V1 setup with their app and Waze with good results, as well.

Agree. If you are not alone and there are cars ahead of you, you can pick up the instant on aimed at another car. As long as you heed the warning and slow down.
