Sport seems to go quiet on the higher gears when you're not getting on it. Track keeps it open. There are more intricate answers but this is the biggest difference.
Interesting. I have her set in sport because it just sounds sick switched to track and sounded the same. If what you say is true it's going in Track mode all the time

I'm about the same as you, other than I have tried both Sport and Track and didn't really hear or feel any difference between the two regarding exhaust sound, driving the car. I do like the exhaust sound when it's in the Performance mode, the Tour mode (standard, I guess) is just too quiet for me. There's been a lot of threads on this subject. They say pulling the #42 fuse will cause the Performance baffles to stay open all the time, regardless of engine RPMS. By doing it the way I think you are (thru the Nav screen, choosing the Sport or Track Performance mode), the baffles supposedly open at start up and strong throttle, but for EPA noise level regs, they claim the baffles close at cruising, low engine load, speeds/RPMs. Can't tell you if these statements are accurate, but I can tell you that I only have soot on the two outer tail pipes, the two inner ones stay super clean, so I question the validity of those comments. Hope this helps ya!
Thank you. Yeah I'm not pulling any fuses I just want the exhaust to do it's thing but I'll switch it to Track mode and try it out. Will be installing my Borla xpipe soon so that should bump things up a notch.
if you want to keep the exhaust open more then just go into your sound management settings in your infotainment and set it that way. no need to ride around in track all day just to get more exhaust volume.
No difference in track or sport, at least with my ears.
Like someone said, pulling the fuse will make the baffles stay open all the time which will kill the option of switching through modes via the dial or the infotainment screen.
I ride in track all the time and when the rpm's are low enough and you give it SLIGHT throttle, the exhaust is silent lol. When that happened to me the first time i thought the baffles got stuck closed or something lol. I was like wait a minute where is my exhaust sound? Then i stepped on the throttle a bit more and ROAARRRRRR. Then i was like ohh there it is lol.
Track mode opens the baffles under more conditions than Sport mode but still closes them under some conditions in order to comply with federal noise rules. So depending upon how you drive you may or may not notice a difference between the two but in my 2016 (Z06 A8) there is often a noticeable difference between setting ESM to sport vs track.
Mine normally stays set to track but when traveling I do set it to tour before shutting down at hotels because I generally leave early in the morning and track is very loud at initial start
i have catless headers so i keep it in stealth. going from open to closed and back again has a big sound difference and gets annoying. I keep it sealed up and it still sounds great!
Mine seems to stay open a bit in track mode even at highway speeds but when in sport mode they close at highway speeds and lower rpms. I prefer sport mode if I am driving at a lot of highway low rpm speeds. Otherwise you always hear a faint drone like sound in track mode.
I too keep it in Track mode all the time, but don't like the fact when you gun it they are open, but as soon as you lift off the car goes silent. Are you guys saying that by pulling the fuse, the baffles will stay open during deceleration as well?
I loved my AMGs for the sound they made coming down from redline, if pulling the fuse will do it, then I will do it right away!
I pulled the fuse on mine. I want it open ALL the time. And since the cam install it no longer goes into cylinder reduction mode anymore so I don't have to worry about it sounding crappy any time.

Isnt cylinder deactivation only active/available during ECO mode? New to the car, but thats what I was told at the dealship. Hope this is the case!
For a couple hundred bucks I bought a Dash Logic (for other reasons) but one of the nicest features is that I can switch instantly from
1. All open all the time
2. All closed all the time
3. Whatever mode the car is set to.
It works off the mirror switch. Left is open, right is closed and the middle is whatever the car is set to.
AWESOME FEATURE.

The "mirror switch"? Are you sure you're not calling Onstar?

Yup.
I tried cruising the highway in "sport" and it definitely eliminated the drone that "track" gave. I was able to actually use 6th gear more often and able to touch the throttle and not have an annoying drone lol. It was actually pretty silent.

So what I am getting at , essentially, is say for instance you are in 2nd gear, gun it to 6000rpm and let off...will the baffles now stay open with the fuse out on the way down, or are they still shutting?
