I respect the decision of those who use expel and I understand your reasons for using the product. Out of curiosity I got a quote from the custom painter I have used in the past for work on my cars and motorcycles. The cost to custom paint my 2016 Z06 was less than getting it expel wrapped. It's not the expel product cost it is the labor to install it that is inflated. I made a decision to ceramic coat my car. I have plenty of time this winter so I am going to do it myself. Adams has a ceramic paint coating kit for $159.99 that has everything needed for the job, all you need to add is patience and your own labor and time and no one can say Adams doesn't make quality products.

yes it is the labor.. but with that said, it is also an art. Especially on the expel ultimate, it is so thick, it is an art to get it to shrink and lay down on every panel perfectly. A guy messes up... now he has to buy more material... cost goes up.

May as well get the guys who are pro's and bite the bullet. Down here in west palm, 4500 is for the guy who is a pro. He normally charges 5500 or more, but will go to 4500 for me as a favor for people i send him.

I wouldn't necessarily compare wraps with ceramic coating directly. Wraps do offer quite good physical protection. What I would advise anyone thinking about wraps is getting the car professionally wrapped but choose a wrap without the ceramic coating layer (in most cases much more affordable), then do the ceramic yourself over the wrap. You could also do paint corrections beforehand yourself to slash down the overall cost but not everyone is cut out for this step, good thing you can always try and if you can't get it corrected to a level you want, go with a pro.

I was told that certain films (mine is Avery) have a more difficult time with shrinking and retraction if done over a ceramic coat. The wrap is $4700. I am having the wrap coated with Ceramic Pro afterwards for $800. This is a situation where you get what you pay for. Regional prices vary as well as the quality of the installer. The shop I’m using was the World wrapping champs in 2016.
I would definitely advise on getting the previous coat removed before wrapping, you just don't want the risk of the wrap falling off because of the ceramic coat.

Mike I agree with you and the expel is definitely many steps above the ceramic paint coating I am going to install on my Corvette. Here in Louisville the best price I got for the expel ultimate was between $7000 & $7500. That's a rip off in my opinion considering I can get a entire new show paint job for just over $6000. Yes there is an art to laying the expel on an existing car properly but not on the same level as doing a new paint job that exceeds the quality of OEM paint. Just my 2c worth.

Easy solution, take a trip down here to west palm, and book a hotel for a couple nights, have a vaca, and get your car wrapped. for 4500

I am having it done. I was just sharing the info passed along so people can ask these questions. There are lots of sign shops now working with vinyl and they have no clue how to get the paint ready for the vinyl. "Ounce of prevention, worth a pound of cure"!!!

Deerfield beach to be exact, is where his shop is, I will PM you the details and his number if you like? Just PM me your full name so when you call him, I've already told him to hook you up.

I have a white 2016 C7 that I had XPEl'ed in Dec. 2016, the day I picked up the car. Fast forward to summer of 2019 (11,000 miles) and unfortunately, I noticed
it had begun to yellow. It has progressively become more noticeable. The installer is going to redo ALL of the XPEL and told me this is the first time in eight
years of installation they have seen it yellow. Based on your experience, I have to wonder. Even assuming it to be true, it provides little consolation as I had
side skirts added. These now have to be removed and replaced by a body shop AFTER the XPEL is re-applied. Also, I will have to have a curb rash repaired
($1K) which I was not going to bother with as it is barely noticeable. But I was advised absent a repair, the XPEL would not adhere to the vehicle.

While the installer did a fantastic job and they are honoring XPEL's ten year guarantee against yellowing, having it re-done is going to be a major PITA and expense.

My experience probably doesn't count for much, but it is commonly known in my area that the Xpel Ultimate has a tendency to yellow ever so slightly with age and noticeable on a white car. All of my Xpel covered cars (and I'm going on my fourth) have been black so I never see anything obnoxious. Sorry............

Complete car w/ Xpel will most likely run you in the neighborhood of $5K ... worth every penny in my opinion ... my 2018 ZO6 loves it!!!

Nothing against Xpel. Mine is getting wrapped this week with Suntex. I chose to go with the Suntek.

Mine with paint correction first, Xpel on full car and Clearplex on windshield was about 8K. It was on an Aston, not C7.
