Default A lap at Sonoma Raceway

First time driving a Z06 on the track in a slightly damp condition. 1'47.88 Stock alignment, Cup 2, Z07 package. Understeering on slow corners and having trouble putting power down on exit. I will try a more aggressive alignment next time and test it again.

i went to a driving school there when it was called Sears Point Raceway and Bob Bondurant was there. Do they still have schools there?

Nice work. Should be able to get into the low 40's with more time and alignment tuning.

I did the Bondurant school years ago. Jim Russell has been there for the past few decades. Great video op.

SimRaceway is there, offering HPDE instruction, Audi and McLaren arrive-and-drives, even Formula 3.

Bondurant is a fantastic experience, in Phoenix... and of course Ron Fellows at Spring Mountain. I'm not sure if Skip Barber is still running at Laguna Seca...

Simraceway bought the Jim Russell school awhile back. Nice video, but it seems like you are throwing the car around. Try increasing TC?

Patrick. Wow! You are Awesome. I guess not the first time driving around at tracks. I have done many HPDE events at Sonoma with my 2016 Z06 with Z07 package. I thought the low 1:50's were good times for me. Great job. I see you never hit 4th. I don't either. 2nd on eleven then 3rd gear the rest of the way. Good Job. Hope to see you at the track someday.

Totally agree! The car is definitely capable to do low 40's, hopefully lowering and more aggressive alignment plus a dry track can do the trick.

Mike,
Your car is beautiful! Yes, I have driven on this track many times but with a much lower HP Car. It's frightening with that much HP and Gs, especially full throttle at turn 5. It's interesting that I didn't loose much time with using 3rd gear only for the whole track, what an awesome car.
However, the track was damp at the bottom of turn 6 and turn 8. I believe I might hit 4th gear if it was dry and had a track alignment setting.
May I ask you if you are tracking with Cup 2? Mine looks like done after only six sessions, and lap time dropped a full second at the end. What an expensive weekend!

Looking forward to meet you some days!!

Pat,
I run Cup 2's. They get a little squishy by the end of a 20 minute session. Yep pricey on tires and now I need brake pads. Those CCB's are killer though. Im running in D group in HOD May 22. HOD is a great outfit. April 10 there was only about 8 cars in the advanced group.
Hope to see you

By the way. Any chance was the Porsche driven by a guy named Wa? That guy is fast. I told him I've done about 25 track days and he says he does that many a year for the last 10 years

Mike,

We all go to Speed SF, with Wa and a bunch of Gt3s and vipers. They all run about the same laptime as I do. Generally, the drivers in Advance group there are much faster than HOD with the same safety standard. And since most cars in that group are running similar lap time, traffic wasnt an issue.

My Cup 2 only last for six sessions and the fronts are done. Front brake pads have only 50% left. I have just switched my CCB disc to steel discs, and they are much cheaper to replace! (Same as brake pads!) Check out Girodisc.com

Pat,
I'll have to sign up for a Speed SF day.
Great driving. I'll check out Girodisc.com
