Default Is this normal?

My 2015 Z06, M7, Z07, with 7,000 miles is doing something I don't think I've seen before. Am I nuts, and is this normal?

Start the car cold, drive as it warms up, get to about 170 oil and coolant, both the HUD tach and the instrument panel show the redline has moved up to 6,500. Cool, I can romp on it. BUT.... the F1 style lights for shifting on the HUD shows a full row of blinking lights, indicating I should upshift when the engine revs are only 5,000. Really? But when the coolant reaches 190 or so the lights operate like the redline is 6,500.
Confusing.

It's normal. You need to get fully up to temp to avoid having the nannies urge you to upshift.

I can't speak to what's normal on the M7, but personally I wait until the oil temp comes up before I get on it. I figure it's the oil that's in contact with all of the wear parts, not the coolant, so that's what I base my romp decisions on!

The oil and coolant were in the 170's, and the contradictory part that is that the moving redline indicators were both at 6,500. Which, to me, says the car IS warmed up enough.

Yes, I would think that by the time your oil got to 170, it's fine. But I don't know how your oil could get up to 170 without the coolant getting up to temp unless your thermostat were bad.

How long does it take your car to get up to the 195-200 range? Does it ever drop back lower than that once it has reached that point?

Default 2015 a8 z06 (14,700 waxer miles)

Today driving in approx. 60 degrees outside temp range and at cruising speed the coolant temps vary from 188 to 192 degrees with the factory thermostat.

Than if I stop with the car running or get into stop & go traffic it will go slightly over 200 degrees but once I'm back to cruising the temps will fall back again.

Coolant temps from dead cold heat up quick when first started, within a mile or two to 190 degrees, oil takes longer.

That seems OK as long as once it's up past 195 it doesn't fall BACK to the 170 or whatever.

It would with a low temp stat installed even with the stock tune if your cruising.

I am running a 160* stat and once warmed up it's in the 170's or 180's depending on speed, 190's stop and go. It would seem the F1 lights tach are programmed differently than the movable redline colors. Has anyone else noticed this?
