Can't Clear CEL Code

1st time using a hand held OBD2 reader. Tried to clear code to see if problem had been corrected (by me). Was expecting to see "Erase Done" but instead get "Erase Failure". Have read instr. book several times w/o helping me. Have tried several times to clear code-no joy. Can I clear code by disconnecting positive battery cable for 10-15 mins? Could see all the PIDs & status of monitors & understand a certain # of drive cycles need to be done to reset monitors after clearing codes & that is when the CEL will show up again if not remedied but can't clear CEL code-shssh! Any help really appreciated, again 1st time trying to use this reader. Thanks

It's fun to guess, but how about telling us which OBD2 reader you are using?

You can probably clear the code by disconnecting the battery. It's best to disconnect the negative terminal; the is less chance of shocking you or your wristwatch.
