You are going to have a difficult time on the passenger side because of the oil reservoir being in the way. Driver side would be much easier.

When I pick up my 2019 next week I will closely look over the vents to see if fitment is any better. This is one of the long list of reasons GM offered me a MSRP to MSRP trade on my 2016. So fingers are crossed...

Interested to see if there are any changes visible. I don't expect the actual vent design to change, rather just the fitment clips and perhaps the front edge may be a little smaller.

Just went and checked mine...both sides chipped. Damn! I had never noticed it before and I’ve done nothing but stare at the car for the 3 months I’ve owned it. It’s hard to see on black but I just touched them up. I guess I’ll have to pull the vents and sand down the edge some.

Edit: The chips on mine didn't seem to be as bad as some of the pictures. It looks like some of you guys had the vents put on when the paint was wet and it pushed it out so to speak. Mine was only worn on the leading edge of the curve on the vent. Like you took and xacto knife and traced around it. I could only see the gray primer for maybe 1mm. Took my very fine point brush and paint and touched it up.

i almost wonder if a 1 or 2mm washer on the exterior side of the fender would keep the bottom from digging in? the top? maybe breaking the top tab off? i mean how secure does this need to be? was just **** poor overlook on the design side. i once saw a diagram of the stingray fender without the insert vs the Z06/GS fender and the difference is the amount of structural integrity was compromised because of the size of the opening with no support. i cannot imagine they haven't figured this out by now. i was ASSURED by Jeff that the kit and solution would be to the dealers by now. He seems like a straight guy but who knows what he's up against?

for anyone just noticing this design flaw don't feel bad THEY ALL DO IT lol

It would be interesting if someone could put up a poll here on the site so we could see how many owners have this issue and what year their car is, mileage, etc.

That's the problem with forums like this...sometimes things are pointed out that you wouldn't have otherwise noticed. Hell, I didn't even know what orange peel was until I joined this forum.

My 16 Z06 did it. GM said they were coming up with a solution. That was 15 months ago. I have never heard back from them and I never will. My solution was to order the 2018 after the new paint shop opened. Received my 18 Z06 two weeks ago. There seems to be a looser fit on the fender vents.

You, your dealer or any reputable body shop can do both vents in about 20 mins. These pieces are durable, don’t be scared to make them slightly smaller on the backside so they fit without rubbing. Or wait for GM’s fix...gd luck.
Any pictures of Passenger side removal and install?

Thanks for the information. When you say looser fit, does that mean the front end of the vent isn't positioned as close to the fender as it previously was? Any other noticeable differences? I'm hoping this fix was introduced into the 2018 production run after the plant reopened.

Ordering a brand new $100k replacement car isn't really a "solution" for most people.

C'mon! The ZR1 is the cooling fix Tadge promised a few years ago to Z06 owners.

It doesn't fit as close to the fender. This car was produced after the plant reopened. I never had any complaints about the paint on the 16 but the paint job on the 18 is perfect. The first picture is the 16 obviously.

My wife was tired of me bitching about something she couldn't see. So I got the 18 for a birthday and retirement present.

I posted my correspondence earlier in this thread back on November 15th, 2017. Here is the latest I had heard from January 31st;

"Garry,

We have made several modification to the Z06 fender appliques and the supplier is starting to trial the new parts. I have to wait until the new service part numbers become available. I checked yesterday to see if the new part numbers are available and they are not released yet. I am expecting the parts should be available by March. Once they are release, I will be issuing a service bulletin so all GM dealer know what to do to correct the condition.

Sorry for the delay,

Corvette Brand Quality Manager"

My local Chevrolet body shop told me that they set a reminder to follow up mid March which we are coming up on in about a week. Fingers crossed and hoping this will be taken care of soon, which I truly believe it will.

Cheers,

-Garry

Looks like the new opening cover is just smaller all around leaving more of a gap to the fender paint.

And the latest from this morning, March 8th;

"Garry,

The service communication is in the process of approval. It will not be long until the bulletin is released to your dealer.

Regards,"

If you look at post #140 on this thread below by me you'll see how I fixed this. It wasn't that hard to do, it's been a year and it still looks perfect.

That may not have been hard for you, but there's no way in hell I would trust myself to take on something like that.

Some of us have varying amounts of paint that has chipped off due to this and it is a warranty covered issue that in my opinion needs to be addressed by GM. It sounds like you are okay with it, while others of us are not. Cheers!
