'16 M7 Z06. Happened today but has happened twice before in 10 mos (remembered this time to ask). As in previous 2 times, car is parked on slight down-slope, front facing downhill. Parked in reverse w/brake set. Push in clutch to start, foot on brake, release brake, let out clutch while car is held in hill assist mode. Car begins to slowly roll fwd! Yes car is in R (looking at display). Try twice more, each time reshifting to reverse, then shut off car, restart & now engages & can back up. All 3 times there was either parking curb (6" tall) in front or another car so really no room to screw around trying to get it to engage. Lucky it worked before I ran out of fwd. space. Just curious--Anyone else with M7 (any C7 model) done this? Going in for oil change next week(don't say it ) & will ask but not hopeful, probably a shrug & who knows kind of answer. Dealer has been very good times I have been in. Very small town (12,000) & not a Corvette dealer (GM won't allow small volume dealers), but they do get some in for work. I guess I need to leave plenty of room from now on!

Looking at the display doesn't ensure the transmission is actually in reverse with the idler enraged for reverse. You really need to feel the gear engage.
It's no different then first where the indicator can indicate 1 but you really aren't fully engaged.
I have no idea exactly where the indicator switch/switches are located but if you crawl under the car you can readily see they are not on the transmission.

So multiple reshifts into reverse don't count even after car moves fwd 1-2 ft. after each try. I appreciate your answer but "being there" I know from experience (14' Z51 M7 w/o this) & multiple other manuals what engagement feels like. As to location of indicator switches, you say "no idea where they are" then the "BUT". Couldn't the indicator be part of the, at least 2, wiring connections on transmission. I was under car just last week installing the "1-4" skip shift bypass wiring bundle & instructions warn not to connect it between reverse lockout solenoid or vehicle will not be able to shift into reverse & they are identical, same connector pin arrangement, (one above the other).

The reverse lockout is to keep you from shifting into reverse while the car is moving forward and has nothing to do with the gear indicator.
Good luck with trying to shift into reverse when the car is moving forward.
Aside from all that how is it you expect the dealer to fix your "problem" when you can't repeat it?

Thanks for being so astute as to not read/understand my follow post. I "know" why there is a anti reverse switch, the warning on the 1-4 skip-shift is saying you won't be able to go into reverse, not while driving down the highway-DUH! The point you made about no connection to transmission was so-o-o- wrong. That is all I was pointing out. Electrical connections as those 2 on the tranny normally are carrying more than one signal to one part thus multiple pins.
And Dipstick, I asked "has anyone else had this happen" not OMG the sky is falling what do I do? Dealers do have many Bulletins we are unaware of is why I would ask him also if anyone has seen this. Go away, I will un-subscribe to my own thread to avoid your nastiness, but thanks for playing.
