Z06 rear tire - still good for track?
#4
Can you guys do me a favor and answer if the pics of OP's tires are in good enough condition for regular street use? I just purchased a used Z06 and the rears look like OP's but not going to track the car, so wondering if its safe for regular use. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Well it's a runflat. So it should be good even if it "blows out" on the track or the highway at 75 mph, right? j/k of course.

I would not use those, or any others, in that shape at all.

That tire isn't corded. The Cups get those longitudinal bands around them even after mild use with lots of tread left. I'm looking on my phone but those tires have some life left. Now if that's a bald super sport it's done.

It is hard to tell from the pictures. The tire is definitely close to cording but there might be a day or two life left in it. The large patch in the center isn't focused enough for me to tell whether it is some OPR or a flat spot down to the cords.

Hope about this right rear being safe for street use, just 20 miles to the Michelin tire shop?
Of course NOT even for the street. I had just inspected all four tires with a flashlight 250 easy miles earlier, including after doing that, driving it forward 15" and doing that again, and that gash was not there then. So after seeing the below, I jacked up the car, took the tire/wheel in to the tire shop, got it replaced (new PSS), and then drove the car in and got the other 3 replaced.
