No point in purchasing the car if you don't enjoy the true horsepower!

Many will agree that there is never enough power, useable or otherwise.

Mid 50's plus.
Honestly I'm 48 and I was the youngest in our SM class, and by quite a bit I think, so I think "Mid 50s" would be middle of the pack for Vette owners and you'd have to be 65+ to be an "old timer"! But I don't have any hard stats.

"Old timer" is a state of mind. 10 years ago I raced sport bikes with a guy, at the time he was 60+. One day we were at the supermoto track and he pulled up, to chat. He was happy he had just bicycled 124 miles, double his age. I guarantee he would have been faster than most at Spring Mountain.

Its a rocket on 4 wheels that when you step on the gas its there no hesitation a pure adrenaline rush for sure. As someone said its a 200hp difference so if you want to toodle along in a GS nothing wrong with that but if you want to step up to the next level then the Z06 is it hands down Awesome!

If it's POWER, the answer is Yes.
200 more lbs./HP can be "felt."
Other than that, not so much.

It's the same chassis in both cars, but I'm not sure the slightly lower weight (2%) of the GS can be felt to any great degree.
Having owned both cars, I can safely say the GS definitely feels lighter.

It's not the amount of weight, its the location of the weight.
Z06 has an extra ~100lbs on the nose.
Z06 is about 50/50 weight ratio.
GS is 100lbs rear weight biased.

In any case, I own the Z06 and love it.
If I were to do it over, which would I chose?

I definitely enjoy my Z06 w/ Z07 M7 over my GS A8, but I sometimes wonder about a GS Z07 w/ M7...

Hard to say... Given that its a tough decision for me having owned both, I think the best answer is: "You can't go wrong with either choice."

EDIT: if it hasn't already been mentioned, this is a really good article that covers this topic: http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...e-grand-sport/

I sometimes think I can feel the difference between empty and full of gas, or at least in slower cars I think I can. But this is less than half that.

And that's under acceleration. No way I can feel half a tank of gas when cornering or braking.

Fair enough.

Z06 has an extra ~100lbs on the nose.
Isn't it behind the front wheels...the S/C and plumbing?

Yeah, isn't that awesome!
Actually the engine is mostly behind the front axle, but the added plumbing and intercoolers is in front of the front axle.

In either case, being in front of the axle or not is more about technicality being able to claim "Mid-Engine". Really what matters is how far the weight is located in front of the center of the car. More forward weight shifts the pivot (mass-center) forward causing the car to feel more heavy when under centrifugal force (hard turns).

We're only talking about turn-in.

As for acceleration, 100lbs will absolutely not be noticeable in terms of straight line acceleration, especially since the car has +200hp, if anything that weight is probably helping with traction.

I'm 44 (was 43 at the time) and I was not the youngest. Mid 30's couple both drove, and someones daughter came along (and drove a Z06) and she was mid 20's.

Totally agree! And that is more what I'm referring to...I know 30 year olds who drive their Prius like Miss Daisy is in the back seat.
