Default CEL code P050D

I have a CEL P050D code pop up on the car over the past couple of weeks and checking with Onstar they tell me that the code shows "Ignore unknown DTC".

I took the car to the dealer over the weekend to have them check it out and they told me that the history showed a "Rough idle" code and that it may need to have the heads off to clean up excessive coking. They reset the code but it came up again this morning.

The car has around 9500 miles since May 2016 and I had the BMS air filter and a Corsa X-pipe added about 2000 miles ago.

The dealer says that the de-coke would be covered under warranty, but I was curious if anyone else had seen this.

Had that code pop up a few weeks ago.. took it in and they determined it was a bad injector. The dealer swapped it out under warranty - and all is well.

You have gotten a couple of good avenues of investigation from the forum and let me add one more... Stay the HELL away from the dealer who wants to pull the heads because of coking and take it to a dealer with a competent service department.

Under no circumstances should you allow them to remove those heads for this issue unless you have a P0 300 code as well.

Absolutely no way your heads are coked in 9500 miles using Mobil 1 as the factory fill unless you are burning huge amounts of oil. It would take much more than 1 quart per 3000 miles to even bring this into question. An amount of oil consumption that would be blatantly obvious.

This code can come from a fouled plug that could have cleared itself (or still be fouled) or may be breaking down slightly when the car is really hot. Or fuel with to high a water content.

Recommend getting GM corporate reps involved before allowing those heads to come off the car!!!!

not coking up of the valves. I've fixed that code many times in both trucks and vettes with new injector. have them check to see what cylinder has history misfires.

Thanks to all for the advice and guidance. Spoke to the dealer and showed them the service bulletin and they identified injector #4 was faulty. Replaced and the car seems fine now.
