my 2015 c7 z has 13k miles on it, mostly daily drive with occasional spirited driving. I got brakes worn warning on my dash, but when i restarted the car it went away, so im guessing it will show up again. what are the costs for break pads on the carbon ceramics. Im assuming my rotor are still fine. How much is the cost im looking at for this service including parts and labor. Im thinking its better to buy parts myself and get it done at my local corvette specialist shop.
The brake pad wear sensor is bad and needs to be replaced. Unless you road course the car, the pads/rotors should still be in great shape.
Some dealers have replaced not just the defective sensors; (which disintegrate due to the heat), but also the front pads as they tend to come as a kit from GM, at least in the past.

Any idea if the new parts have been updated in any way to prevent the same thing from happening again?
I believe there is a service bulletin on this. My dealer performed a recall/TSB on my J57's. I had no sign of a problem, they just did it before it happened.

They did it BEFORE you had an issue? This isn't a recall that I could find...

Don't jump to expensive conclusions. The sensor is nothing but a wire embedded in a phenolic type of block that is attached to the brake pad. When the pad wears down far enough the rotor wears away the block and the wire breaks which causes the message. The wire can also break in the harness leading up to the brake pad or the connector on the cradle can come loose. There are 4 you have to check one at each corner of the car.
Corvettes are just a GM car and the vast majority of GM dealers can handle checking this out and are more than likely your local Corvette Specialist. I feel much better about taking my C7 Z06/Z07 to a dealer than I would any independent shop.
By the way, this isn't hard to check this out yourself. If you know how to change tires and change brake pads on almost any car then you can check the brake pads and wires yourself. The sensors are attached to the inboard pad at each caliper. If you find a good pad and a bad sensor you can take it to the dealer and they should fix it under warranty. Or you can buy C6 ZR1 sensors on Amazon or EBay and splice them in place of the stock sensors. They are exactly the same except their wires are too short on the C7.
When you take off the wheels just make sure you use the rotor protectors that came with the car.

Maybe different, maybe the same. My paperwork states:
E RECALL 17267 Brake Wear Indicator Not Functioning Properly - Expires with Base Warranty
CAUSE: RECALL 91-2921 REPROGRAM EBCM
5973 REPORGRAMMED EBCM PER 17267 CODE 28EA5 N/C
As I recall, he said it wasn't a problem with the brake pads or ceramic rotors, just the sensors (and knowing that I won't track the car, added that I will probably never need to replace pads or rotors)
When I took it in, I wasn't having any issues and hadn't received warning, they just did it.
For all the problems people have with dealerships, mine has been good to me and to the Corvettes I've taken to them.
I'll add I had just bought the car with 4,500 miles and took it to them for an oil change and program a fob. I did ask them to check for any outstanding recalls so maybe that's why they did it.
