First, since this is your first post-WELCOME! I apologize for my fellow members not answering yet but they probably work for a living & aren't home yet. I believe I have seen posts from "some" folks who have gone to the 160 (any brand) & have had codes thrown on the newer cars (change in tunes from factory). That is my take. Now lets hope some folks with real mod experience will chime in with "good" advice. PS: I looked for the skeleton in post #2, couldn't find it, hope someone will explain to an old fart.

most are running the LMR housing and thermostat. its kinda pricy, but from what I've read there has been no issues with the gasket.

with a stock tune, (assuming you aren't going to retune), you will be better off using the LMR thermostat housing and a 174 degree LS3 thermostat. Owners have reported check engine light and erratic fan operation when using a 160 therm on the stock tune. 174 has not had these issues.

Don't use one that has a gasket that is loose and can be removed. The gasket will fail and the thermostat will jam. The Mishimoto thermostat has the gasket glued down, like the OEM one. It works well.

+1 for the LMR 160 stat and housing. I replaced the stat four times prior to the LMR and ALL failed. This one is solid so far.

I simply bought the 180 stat itself for 29 buck from Redline, and took apart the stock stat and replaced the guts only, works great!

just get the Mitsui ? SP and pop the sender out and place in your stock housing and o ring. works like a charm with no leaks and costly aftermarket housings.

i think it cost me about $20 for the 160 version and snapped in place in a couple of minutes. most all of the time is in removing and reinstalling which you have with all brands anyway.

if you cruise around the forum, you find mostly leaking problems with aftermarket solutions.

What's the benefit from using the 160 thermostat? Better cooling? Why it dosent came from the factory that way?

I guess we do live in the same regin, thats why im asking.

the only benefit that i have realized it for the dragstrip. during the frequent starting and stopping while getting up to the starting line, the car doesn't reach as high a temp, resulting in a bit more power. same reason that you ice your manifold between rounds.

on the street, independent of the thermostat, the temp will reach the limit of the cooling system.

GM and all car manufacturers have to meet emissions and economy regulations. higher temps can help both. also, higher temps will burn off moisture better. within 20 minutes or so of freeway driving, the car will likely reach the same 200-220 f temp regardless of the thermostat value.
