Default Convertible or removable hard top?

I'm buying a Z06 and contemplating the difference in how they make you feel. I've had several convertibles but I've never owned a removable hard top. Do they replicate the feeling of a convertible?

The coupe is great with the top off!!

My brother-in-law has a convertible and it's a lot different, but with the top off the coupe you still have that "open air" feel.

If you ever plan to take it to the track get a coupe - and make it a manual transmission!!

I love the removable top. I also believe you get a bit less wind turbulence while driving than with the convertible. However since you've had convertibles it may not be enough for you. I'd drive both.

If you want to track it I recommend the M7. Owners who have been tracking the A8 have been having overheating/limp mode problems.

Your wife should easily be able to learn to drive a manual transmission. My wife had her old VW Beetle when manual was all they had, drove our '70 Olds 442 with Muncie 4-speed for decades (we bought it new and still have it), we each had 5-speed BMW's for years, and I wish we hadn't sold her old Toyota Rav4 with a 5-speed because she misses that car.

She's driven our C6, C6Z06, C6ZR1, and C7Z06 that have all been manual

The first auto trans vehicle we ever bought is the F-150 we got 4 years ago to tow our Vettes to the track.

I think your wife would really enjoy the connection with the car she would have when running through the gears!!

But....if you won't be tracking it then you can get away with the A8. Just don't take it to the track - well, drag strip would be okay, but a roadcourse will put you into the limp mode within a couple laps.

And of course hardly any track day organizers allow verts without a rollbar.

Let us know what you go for - and post up some pics. You'll love the features of the C7!!!

I agree with saleen556 - drive both!

I looked in your profile to see if you live anywhere in Central Florida - but nothing is in there.

If you do, come on over to Daytona and we'll take the top off my coupe and let you see what you think.

I love my convertible... can’t beat the open air feeling and the C7 is the best vert Corvette I’ve had... easy operation... nice tight fit... single button operation... even goes up an down while moving. It’s awesome.

Roll bar was an easy add on so tracking the car is no issue.

Had convertible Corvette's, hardtop Corvette's and the removal coupe top, have a Z06/Z07 coupe now, and with the top off it's great, BUT NOTHING LIKE A CONVERTIBLE, and now my wife wants one of those in a Z06/Z07, so soon to be two Corvette's again.

If your planning to do any tracking you probably want a coupe. Most track don't want convertibles without roll bars.

Something else I've noticed is that the Z06 produces a fare amount of tire noise inside the cab but the convertible has less. I believe it is do to the extra pocket for the top to fold down into. That pocket, even when empty, cuts down on the tire noise.

Short answer is no. It is a personal matter of choice. I prefer the look of the coupe with the top up to the look of the convertible with the top up and prefer the look of the convertible with the top down compared to the look of the coupe with the top out.

My wife is also quite capable with a manual (including motorcycles), but she often encounters long periods of stop-and-go traffic during her commute, during which she found the clutch tiresome (it hasn't helped that some of my aftermarket clutches chattered, or had high pedal pressure), so we went with the automatic. Didn't really matter to me either way, since I don't intend to road-track the car.

I think the coupe looks better than the convertible with the top up. The convertible may look better with the top down. I’ve always had convertible two-seater’s including a 2002 Corvette and find the removable roof a good compromise. However if you are a daily driver and like to put the top down all the time you would probably do it more with the convertible then the removable roof. It’s fairly easy to take the roof off but not as easy as pushing a button. Also the removable roof is not quite as open as the convertible behind you. Since my car is a daily driver the hardtop is probably slightly better than the convertible. And I can bring it in one of those spray off carwashes ,I wouldn’t do that with a convertible. But there is a nice open air feeling of having the top off and the windows down. Don’t think you would be sorry with either one.

I have a convertible and the trunk is pretty small BUT I like the convertible a lot. No need to lift off a section of roof.

It does get dirty under the top so to clean the car good you need to put the top half way down and then you can see all the dirt.

Default Nothing like it...

Have had both.. had several convertibles then bought an 08 coupe.. when the GS's came out there was no way I could pass up on a wide body convertible so jumped back into the 11 GS convertible and have stayed with the convertibles since, with the 2016 Z06 Convertible currently in the stable... nothing like cruising on a winding mountain road (or any road for that matter!) with the top down. And like has been mentioned before, you can drop em while moving upto 30 MPH.

It's all personal preference, and mine is a drop top!

I don't track my cars so don't have to worry about getting roll cage installed in them but if you do want to track.. think long and hard about which one you'll get.

Did I happen to say.. I LOVE IT!

COUPE!

The profile of the car looks awesome with the roof line going all the way towards the rear spoiler. Plus you can remove the top in like 30 seconds.

The coupe's trunk also fits a lot of stuff.

Had a S2000 and the top eventually had tears and it sucked replacing it.
