Awesome experience! I would do it again and hope to on my next vette.
It was worth it to me. If you are in a position to do the engine build I wouldn't pass it up.
I would combine it with the PD5 for the ultimate experience and complete book of photos for your build. Normally you will build the engine on one day and then your car will be placed in the queue for build the next day or the day after. Count on a dauy and a half to see the entire build of your car.
I built my engine on a Monday and my car started on the line Wednesday and finished Thursday.

I would appreciate hearing from any of you who purchased the engine build option. What were your pros/cons? Was it worth the cost?
I built my engine last October for my 2017 Z. One of 9 Canadians that did for 2017 MY. It was amazing and if this will be for a car you will keep for a long time I highly recommend it. GM does a great job. Worth every penny and I expect GM does not make much as think of the added complexity to offer this kind of experience. No other OEM does for a reason. They have a dedicated engine line just waiting for a customer. Really a great story to go along with the car, in fact I would not have ordered a Corvette without this option. Even after the year I look back at the photos. PM me if you want to know more.
Since they have discontinued plant tours as they retool and won't resume them until 2019, are they still offering the engine build option? I would have thought that they'd want to keep all civilians out of the plant for security reasons. When I went through last spring the engine building was going on right in the middle of the plant. Maybe you have to be led in blindfolded. Just curious. --Bob
Whoops--I answered my own questions^^^^^.
Here is a link to an article saying engine builds will resume in January. Not sure if you have to be blindfolded.---Bob
Have done it twice and would definitely do it again. Probably the best way to understand how your engine works and a full fun day as well.
Life is short. Why not go for it?
