Harness Bar

There are two options for harness bars. The Shark Bar that mounts low and slightly behind the raised portion of the rear shelf.
The SB works well when using Competition Harnesses with the Competition Seat (harnesses shouldn't be used with the GT seat as the slot in the back isn't large enough). I have the SB mounted in my car.
The competition seat shoulder harness pass throughs are about 4 inches lower than a regular race seat and that position means the harness mounting bar has to be low. However, if you are over a certain height the competition seat will not work either. A friend of mine was trying to decide whether or not to go with the SB so he sat in my car. His shoulders were too high so the belt had to go down from his shoulders through the pass through and then down from there to the SB harness bar. This picture shows the problem:
This is what it looks like when I am sitting in the car with my helmet and HANS on.
Notice how the harness passes from the HANS on top of my shoulders unhindered through pass through. That is how you want the belt to flow. Any deflection as shown in the upper picture means the seat becomes part of the restraint system. If there is an incident the thousands of pounds of force applied to that belt will break the seat pass through and add a couple of inches of extra belt travel as your body is thrown forward. Not a good thing.
The BK bar that sits higher and has it's mount located at the bottom edge of the quarter panel windows ( you will more than likely be able to see the cut out in the window surround from outside of the car). The BK bar has two different levels to mount the harnesses depending on what type of seat you have in the car. A low bar that works with the Competition Seat and a higher bar that works with and aftermarket race seat. My friend chose the BK bar because the SB bar and the Competition Seat were not going to work for him.
Here are some pictures of a BK bar installation.
Both bars permit usage of the stock seat belts. If you are ~5'11" or smaller and you don't plan on changing to an aftermarket seat then the Comp Seat and SB will work for you. If you are thinking of installing a race seat at any time in the future go with the BK bar as it won't need to be replaced when you add the race seat.
The next step you need to think about is how you are going to mount your lap belts.
I use the BK C7 lap belt kit.
