I have a 17 C7 Z06 A8 with 11k miles and my transmission won't do anything in any gear. First it was just the RPMs jumping up and down on the freeway when I just pressed the gas a little bit, so I took it to the dealership yesterday and they said it would be a couple of days before they could look at it so at this point the gears were working so I decided to take drive home and on the way back the RPMs were just jumping around when I hit the gas and it wouldn't move at all in D on the freeway so I took it to the side. I turned it off and on and it did nothing, the RPMs were just going all the way to 6k in D and even in P, it would do the same even though its supposed to have a rev limiter. So it's been towed to the dealership and I am wondering if anybody else has this problem and whether the whole transmission needs to be replaced or could it be the torque converter. Hoping the dealership replaced parts instead of repairing them. Any tips from anybody who has experienced this issue. Thank you!
Give them a chance to see what it is & remember to take a deep breath & keep saying "at least I have a warranty". I know it is hard/frustrating for this to occur on a very new car, hang in there & follow up on here with what occurs after they diagnose it. Lots of us will be interested. Folks here can only speculate & induce undue worries when they can not possibly know for sure what is going on in your particular situation-Good Luck!

Thanks and after being at the dealership for a week they decided they have to completely replace the transmission under warranty and I should get the car back by next week. The reason the service guy gave was that the input speed sensor needed to be replaced and this isn't a part that can be replaced or repaired, instead the whole transmission needs to be replaced.
Sorry it's taking so long but hopefully they have it figured out. You should probably stay away from the dealer till it's all back together. I saw my C5 once when it was on the rack while they removed the gas tank. They had to remove rear bumper, exhaust, etc. Was really sad, yours will probably be worse . I've had a '14 Z51 & now a '16 M7 Z & love these machines. I see I'm the only reply but almost 300 have viewed, so a quick update would be appreciated.
I have seen input shaft speed sensor failure before (though not on the a8) and none of them resulted in the vehicle failing to proceed down the road under its own power. From the little I do know about the a8, it could be a pump drive failure, as it's in the valve body and driven by a tiny chain and sprockets. No line pressure = no movement.
