Default Service Rear Axle

It has been extremely cold in my area and car has been sitting in garage for about 2 weeks. Decided I would fire her up for several minutes tonight and right after the service rear axle notification popped up on the cluster. First time I have seen this and I'm leaning toward the extreme temperature of 20 degrees or less over the past week. Any ideas??

Mine did the same thing the day I bought it.
Other end of the spectrum though, it was 112* air temp. Who knows how hot the asphalt was at the time.
I figured it was outside some sensors range. I put my hand on the diff. case and it was hot obviously but not making unusual noises.
Took it back the next day for the 500 mile oil change and there were no codes. The Corvette tech agreed it must have been too hot and changed the fluid just to be safe.

In your case it's just too freaking cold.

I figured the extreme cold temperatures had an effect. The fluid has been full since I took delivery and it was checked. There were no issues 2 weeks ago on its last voyage when temps were 50 degrees. It is currently 8 degrees outside and maybe 10 degrees warmer in the garage. It has been colder than a well diggers a$$hole for over a week.

You only started the car and did not move it? It could be unrelated to the rear axle. It would be interesting to see if it comes back next time you start it.

Happened to me yesterday on the first engine start of the day when backing out of my driveway (Temp +25* F).

Could not duplicate it for the rest of the day nor this morning.

Yes, just cold start didn't move car. Tires are too cold didn't want them to crack. Warmed car up, shut it off and started it again. The same indicator came back up on cluster.

Interesting that it came on without moving.

It was a bit slow to crank, but to be expected with the temperature.

Low battery charge is a good explanation.

The same thing happened to mine last Friday and my car has been in the shop ever since. They are still looking for the gremlin.

Have you modded your car at all? What about tires? Stock? Sizes?

I never moved the car at all. Started it the other day during warmer temps after battery tender had been on and no issues. Chalking it up to cold weather and low battery charge.

Our 2017 Z51 A8 had been sitting in the garage on the CTEK tender for about two weeks. Garage temps as low as 0'F during that time, up to about 35'F when I started it today.

The "Service Rear Axle" warning came on either as I started to back out of the garage, or perhaps a few seconds before. I hit "Dismiss" and it went away, car is idling right now. I'll go up and down our driveway a few times and then do a shutdown/restart to see if it reappears.
