Default Carbon Ceramic brakes Longevity

Toying with trading in on a Z06 that has the Z07 package. The only thing really holding me back is the Z07 package given the cost to replace the brakes when they wear out. How many miles can I expect the CC brakes last on a street only car?

Those in the know say that CCB's on a street car will last for 100k miles or more before they need to be changed out, with brake dust a thing of the past.

Wow, I never would have guessed the CCBs last that long! Thanks.

The rotors will probably last the life of the car on the street as long as you don’t allow worn pads to damage them.

I can no longer find the GM webpage but they were saying that for the life of Ceramic rotors, the wear would be less than a human hair.

So it’s basically just the pads that wear?

CCM rotors don’t ‘wear’ like an iron rotor, rather they oxidize from heat, primarily excess heat like that seen on a road course. It is almost impossible to generate the amount of heat needed to prematurely ‘wear out’ CCM rotors on a street driven only car.

Now, as you mention the pads still will wear down, so as long as you change out the pads well before they get down to the backing plate, you won’t cause increased ‘wear’ on the CCM rotor that way either.

Chipping a disc will shorten the longevity real fast. My ZR1 had them. The worry over damages to the disc's themselves along with no wheel cleaners or tire spray. Some of the ZR1 has vibration issues with the disc's as well. IMO they are overrated. Brake pads last a longtime for me.
Then with the Powerstop pads on the iron disc's the brake dust issue is reduced 99 percent.

You also have to remember the iron disks will last 30K to 40K miles if you aren't tracking the car or abusing the brakes (incorrect application such as brake tapping, dragging them, etc). Just because you might replace pads at 20K doesn't mean you need to replace the disks at the same time.

How long do the carbons last on the track? When I decided to not spring for a z07 my main decision was that the guys that were tracking them were swapping out the rotors for giro discs which in my mind meant that they weren't worth it.

I looked at my pads on my C6 Z06 they were 75 percent good at 45,000
miles I changed them anyway since I had an extra set.
Never needed pads on a Corvette. My last 2 trucks that I drove a lot pads were still good at 210,000 and my other older truck has 208,000
neither ever had new pads but both had a rotor change. I do very little in town driving. I couldn't imagine changing pads on my Corvette at 20k.
I have 28k no issues! Pads seem to go forever anymore!

I tend to agree with you. There are a lot of normal street drivers who don't drive their Corvettes any different than they drive their grocery getters and they get a lot of miles out of a set of pads and rotors. I could see some people easily getting 80K miles on a set of iron rotors.
