Callaways Do Overheat!!!!!
A couple weeks ago 2 of us traveled from Florida to 10 degree weather in Chicago to pick up 2....yes TWO... CALLAYAY 757 Corvettes. One was for just fun and the red one is fun and also track use. The owner of the red one had a C7 Z06 and his problem was...big surprise.. it over heated.
Feeling confident from everything we read CALLAWAY had overcome the heat problem we went ahead with the purchase.
The first problem was that the red one only made it about 2 miles when it tossed the blower belt and destroyed the hood insulation cover. Callaway was kind enough to send a replacement belt and pad to a local dealer. They were willing to replace the drive belt but not the hood cover. So that ate up about 2.5 hours for us to replace. I sent Chris from Callaway an email about it and said "hey how about throwing a couple old goat a couple t shirts for the trouble....no response.
No big deal just poor customer relations IMHO.
The red one went to Sebring last Saturday for a trial run, first lap the car went in to limp mode due to a traction control issue, problem solved and ready for the second session.
3rd lap in and...yes you guessed it, oil shot up to over 300 degrees!! WTF???
Emails sent and basically the reply was... we'll get back to you Monday when the engineers are available.
Without further awed here is their response.
Hello *****,
Were you able to read any stored codes from the first lap? I am curious.
320 F oil temperature is high. Our SC system has superior cooling of inlet air temperature at higher horsepower settings
which allows you to run several more laps than a stock Z06 but you still must pay attention to the oil and water temperature as
neither system has been improved over stock. Typically a couple lower speed laps can be made to cool the engine oil and water.
Hopefully the rest of your day went okay. Any further problems?

So before you blow a stack of green you need to know that YES they still run hot!!!
The car is going to LG for the fix.

I have no idea why everyone didn't believe those of us who told you Callaways will still overheat. It was pretty clear they didn't address any of the cooling issues, and the issue was never the blower. Maybe you're not pulling timing right away, but oil and water temps will be worse in the Callaway given the extra power.
Sorry you guys are having issues. LG will fix it. That's been the solution for automatics all along.

Was the auxiliary cooler from GM added to Les’ SC757 as discussed last month? He was to speak with his dealer about that, as his previous Z had one and he understood the need, as he and I spoke about this explicitly.
Nevermind, I’ll ask him directly. Thanks
p.s. allowing for addl. info, we would have replaced the liner but you decided to pick up from dealership. Thanks.
