Not good. Lawyer up and hope for the best with the Magnuson-Moss act. Can't say I've ever heard of "Pronto" oil filters. Not to kick you while you're down but why did you go with that filter? What specifically is GM claiming? Filter blew apart and grenade your engine?

1. post pictures.
2. they don't owe you a motor.
3. was it ever serviced at a dealer?

if the dealer doesn't want to step up to help you out should be the first sign

either sell as roller, or put a motor back into it. don't waste your time get it back on the road!

I disagree, based on the very limited post the OP made.
Car is within the 3/36 and unless the filter released a foreign contaminate, how is GM not culpable?

This precludes issues such as low oil, wrong oil, old degraded oil or other lack of maintenance issues.

For? maintenance or warranty work? Unless a repair was made that has a causal link to the engine failure, this is also a moot issue.

Maintenance does NOT have to be done at a dealer so if he chose an independent, it has zero bearing on GM performing a warranty repair/replacement for a failed engine that is by all account, under warranty.

OP, did you buy it new? or used? If used, did you run a VIN check to see if it had/has a block?

Not good. Never heard of pronto oil filter. Was this a quick change oil place like jiffy lube?

The filter doesn't have to explode or release contaminants and GM was very specific about the critical nature of the internal bypass valve pressure. See: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...tems-1363.html

I don't get the fascination with aftermarket filters, particularly off brand and multi-level marketing stuff.

I stand by my post. The only caveat I'll add is that my support of it is contingent upon all other considerations being equal. Meaning it was manufactured to the specifications and tolerances as an OEM.

That does not bode well for the OP.
I can see why GM declined coverage.

if the OP can't get clarification from Pronto, he's SOL.

Maybe he can go back where it was changed they used a wrong filter. Easy to do since Wix and other brands have been selling wrong filters for years now. Only filter I trust anymore is a PF-64 from A/C.
Only a quicky change uses those cheap filter who would buy one?

I hear ya, but it is at Rock Auto.

https://www.rockauto.com/en/parts/pr...il+filter,5340

And at Pronto site the number of the filter appears to be correct: http://www.prontocat.com/

PO2222 or PO2222EX

It would be very helpful to know specifically is wrong with the engine. $17k sounds like a bit much and perhaps it is just a spun bearing or other component(s) that can allow a rebuild. The other option is a salvage engine from a wrecked Z. How many rpms was it turning when it failed. Too little info here to make a judgement. A new Z06 crate engine with a dry sump is about $14k and that leaves about $3k to r/r for a $17k tab.

OP may have a claim with Pronto and the process might be simpler if he just sues Pronto in the event they deny responsibility. In suing Pronto, he will essentially have the backing of GM (not financially or with representation) but rather an RO from them saying the filter was not compatible. Presumably he has an invoice from the shop that changed the oil and used the Pronto filter. Given the Pronto number is confirmed by Pronto, that shop is ostensibly off the hook that leaves Pronto.

In discovery they are going to provide proof it meets OEM standards in which case, the OP's case against GM just got easier or they Pronot has no such proof and they will lose.

Either way, such for the OP to have a car he can't drive unless he pony's up to repair it. IF he does, he should keep the exiting engine and any failed parts from it.

Why isn’t there any response from OP on this after all the advice?
