SUBVETTE
There is an initiative on the November ballot to repeal this registration and gas tax increase; those who live here in this crazy liberal left state like me need to vote for the repeal then. If you live here get out and vote it down in November. As an aside, this tax got thru without a vote from the public because the legislature managed to get a supermajority of democrats put in office during the last election and the rules in the legislature allow them to do this (pass tax increases without a vote of the people) when they have a supermajority. The one democrat legislator that was voted in to put them over the top and reach a supermajority by one vote was just recalled in the June primary and fired. His replacement is a Republican and so they no longer have a supermajority and can't do this anymore. The recall petition that got him thrown out was put on the ballot by the same group of enraged citizens that got the "repeal gas tax" initiative put on the November ballot which we sane people in California are pushing for. So hopefully the increase of 12 cents a gallon gas tax and the ridiculous increase in registration fees that went into effect on Jan 1 of this year will go away in November as well a Governor "moonbeam" Jerry Brown, the wacko's leader, who is termed out in November.
It wasn't always like this here, and I've been here 63 years, but ever since Sacramento was taken over by a far left band of liberal democrat socialists, who for the most part live in the Bay Area, Silicon Valley, and LA, life here has been wacko and living conditions politically ridiculous for the rest of us. Hopefully the pendulum will swing back to the right eventually and some semblance of sanity will return. In the meantime I'm too old to leave, and simply ignore the worst of it and enjoy the God given weather, beaches, mountains and most neighbors and sane people, and of course, my Corvette.

The registration feel increased from $80 to $258.
The license fee decreased from $470 to $424.
The other 5 fees stayed the same.
My 2016Z delivered on 8/2016 with the 2LZ package and the 3 options listed in my earlier post has a total of $808 due on 8/24.

I'm surprised you guys don't gave an "Earthquake Control" Fee or a "I Get to Live Next To A Hollywood Actor" fee.

I live in King County in Washington state - talk about a California wannabe state. My registration fees this year for my 2016 Z06 were just under $1,100 - that's annually based on their inflated car value estimates (for which the county is being sued).
I bought out of state so when I registered the car in March 2017 my total bill was for just under $11,000! Registration plus the "use" tax of 10%...

No matter how much you give the government, they always want more. Don't be fooled into thinking that you can ever satiate them. Instead, move someplace where taxes are less. and eventually, the high-tax areas may start to get the message.

This sounds like the very definition of a liberal state.

I'd sure love to see the actual stats that backup those numbers. I don't keep an eye or thought on Cali but if those numbers were true, I'm sure the voters of your state would have fired up the old cauldrons for a good old tar and feathering by now.
Curious - What does the $470 license fee cover?
I'm surprised you guys don't gave an "Earthquake Control" Fee or a "I Get to Live Next To A Hollywood Actor" fee.

My house isn't served by transit of any kind, mind you.

My U.S. Congressman is Kevin McCarthy, the Majority Leader of the House of Representatives, who along with the other 434 Senators and Representatives are paid well, but don't provide any services to the American people in return for our taxes.

True, the fees are nuts. We pay dearly for the roads that are not in the best shape. Then the bikers get their lanes and we pay for them. They can cross on red and no one cares. So they neither pay for anything nor are they subject to the same rules as the folks who drive/pay.
That said, what you get in Cali is a fat paycheck and a dozen proper race tracks to burn fuel on.
Overall, I'm a very happy camper.
