Hey guys im thinking of taking my 2016 m7 z07 to the track next friday to summing point for friday at the track day. I have a few concerns about rock damage to my car and would like to know what prep some of you guys take to lessen the chance of damage from debris.
Try Collision Wrap. It comes in various sizes but I prefer 18 inches wide by 100 ft long. It has adhesive on one side and can be cut to fit. It is like a low cost temporary clear bra. When I use it I use Scotch 233+ 2 inch wide green tape to seal the edges where the wind can catch it. It will work well in the rain and once you finish your last session pull up near a garbage can while the car is still hot and just pull it off and throw in the garbage can. Look in auto body paint and supply stores or on line. Look for RBL Collision Wrap and the size I recommended runs around $50.00.
My previous Vettes didn't have any clear bra on them and a body shop owner suggested I try collision wrap instead of massive amounts of tape to protect front and sides of the cars.
Collision wrap works great, but dont leave it on for extended periods of time. (Like 6 months+). The plastic will start to break down, the glue sets and it becomes a NIGHTMARE to get off.
If you only have it on for a couple track days, it peels off easily and works great. I often use it working on cars instead of fender covers

I like the sounds of this stuff. Is it thicker then permit car wrap material?

If you mean something like Expel it isn't. I believe Expel is 8 mils thick while this is 3 mils. However, Expel is meant to stay on the car for years while this stuff is for temporary use while a car is being transported or stored outside. I used to do a 10 day stint where I would run 8 track days over the 10 days. The collision wrap worked great over that time period and saved the front and sides of my C6Z.
This is a picture I took of my C6Z right after I lost the left front wheel in T1 at VIR at the NCM even in 2015. The fender was ruined and couldn't be repaired due to the wheel breaking it as it came out of the wheel well. However, the Collision Wrap held the fender together and I didn't realize the damage was as bad as it was until we removed the wrap and the fender pieces started flopping all over the place. It works pretty well.
