Hey all... I am out of "free" oil changes after my next oil change and have decided that I will change my own oil after that.... they have put the wrong oil in my car twice so I guess if I want something done right I should do it myself.
Anyways! Anyone know the hold sizes for the 2 plugs, what oil filter wrench fits, torque specs for the plugs and what oil filter is everyone using?
No reason to use any other filter than ac delco PF64, $7 at Walmart or Amazon prime. There is a Mobil 1 rebate going on right now so 10 qts will cost you around $20, all in all DIY oil change for ~$30.
And always hand tight the filter!

I have used Wix filters but went back to the ACDelco when I found out that GM increased the bypass pressure and not all manufacturers have updated their design. I think the design was changed when GM started variable volume oil pumps in most of their engines.
I use a stamped metal oil filter wrench that fits the indentations on the end of the filter. You may need s wrench to get the filter off. But should not need it to tighten. Just as tight as you can get it by hand.

There was a post & discussion recently about the oil bolts. The bolts use a "crush" washer that some recommended to replace at each oil drain due to constant heat/cool of them & maybe losing the ability to properly seal (old ones) when reused. I doubt the dealers replace them & others stated they reused them without any leaks but it might make you sleep better if you bought new. I guess hardware stores have them & sure auto parts stores would & probably much cheaper than dealer. Also be sure to use proper oil filter of 22 psi bypass pressure. The PF 64/PF63E are correct & the PF 48/48E are not to be used even tho they appear identical. This is from a service bulletin from GM quoted on corvetteactioncenter.com under C7 engine/drivetrain for '12-17'yrs (yes, I know '12-13' only applies to other GM vehicles that this SB applies to) but also to LT1/LT4 engines. Wondered if that was a misprint in the SB (PF63E) instead of PF64E but it wasn't corrected in subsequent SBs. Auto Zone says PF63E doesn't fit vettes, so I would stick to PF64.

What about the Mobil 1 oil filter? Is it not as good if not better than the AC delco?
GM OE filter for our C7s is the AC Delco PF64 with a 22 psi bypass valve/spring. In theory any with that 22 psi valve/spring "should" be "as good" if construction/media in filter/burst strength, etc are the same. If it's me I'm not going looking for a cure of a problem that doesn't exist. If you value not having to play games over warranty issues, GM always has the last say, stick with the OE fluids in all components. JMO, your car-IT IS YOUR CHOICE-I just offered my personal opinion, no one else's.

The drain bolts have a rubber seal that looks like an O ring not a crush washer so that does not need to be replaced unless there is an issue.
That is correct. I did an oil change on my 2019 Z06 LT4 several weeks ago and GM is still using the rubber seal with the integral o-ring shape just as they have been using for 20 or more years.
