Default Does your M7 grind gears?

I have an 18 Z06 and from time to time i find if i upshift or downshift hard its some what grindy/notchy. Vehicle has around 1200 miles on it currently. Anyone else find this with their c7 M7 z06? It almost feels like a transmission that has 50,000kms and has been driven hard and grinds gears.

Shifting into 2nd is generally not as smooth as other gears and that appears to be quite common.

They are all what I would call, "notchy/nibbly" especially in second gear when cold. Pretty smooth warmed up.

"Synchros" are basically frictions devices to get the gears spinning at the same speed before they engage. Colder oil, lower friction coefficient on those speed matching devices, so those lubricant-bathed clutches will nor work as well cold as they do at design temperatures,

FWIW... One of the guys at the local Cars & Coffee was saying the same thing .....Another Z owner told him he was a little lazy on depressing the clutch far enough... Saw him a couple of weeks later and he said that solved it and shook his head.....

In my experience, Redline fluid will help a little too

I had mine adjusted at the dealer because 2nd was bugging me. There is a TSB for it. Well it's worse now. I have no idea why I thought a tech knew how to do this.... This winter I will open it up and make the adjustments and see If I can do any better..

A little notch when cold. After it warms up it's smooth as can be. The MGW is also a great option as well if you like a precise shift.

2017 m7 here. Smooth and no notchiness hot or cold weather or operating temps of car.

my c6z would be a little notchy on a low rpm 1 to 2 shift when the car was cold when outside temps were below 20 degrees.

The TSB is for shifter adjustment. Remove the console ,loosen the shifter base and shift rod, lock down the shifter centering pin, retighten shifter and shift rod, remove centering pin. Put back in console

Made no difference on mine

I don't but the service department can look it up. Maybe a good tech may know what he/she is doing and understand it, other than that I wouldn't do it again.

I know they opened it up did a slight adjustment, re tightened it and then shifted it through a cycle ( while sitting there) and said.. "yep all are smooth" and didn't test drive it..

Mine is a bit bnotchy on the 1-2 when cold.

Another member commented on a mobil synthetic oil in the trans making it noticebly smooth-a week after I had changed mine. Gonna try that next time.

Amsoil fluid change took all of the nibble out of second when warm and most out when cold. Not promoting a certain fluid, just what I used.

I've learned it would not grind if I rev it. These cars are designed for speed, if you are driving easy around town or cruising shift 1 to 3, 4 or 5th. They are enough to keep the Vette moving.

I only have 450 miles on my 19 M7 and I grinded tice thinking I was just rusty but now not so sure. It happened both times between first and second gear. Other then that it has been very smooth and enjoyable. Looking forward to the 500 mile mark.......................

There are numerous complaints of M7 2nd gear engagement nibbles and grinds.....some people have it, some don't...I think there are some manufacturing tolerance issues with the synchronizers at the Tremec factory....
I have it when cold, and often a little bit even when hot. I am not so happy about this....I am going to try Mobil-1 Synthetic Dexron III.

2018 and I haven't noticed any issues so far. Then again I haven't driven it much yet so perhaps it's too early to tell. I'm hopeful that it remains issue free.

My friends 2015 M7 had issues going into 6th & 7th without grinding if you weren't real careful but 1st - 5th were always fine on his car. Maybe some people are lucky not to have any issues with their M7s while other M7s seem to have their annoying quirks.

If you want to talk about a crappy manual in a Vette you should have driven my old '93 6-spd coupe. That thing was ridiculous. It shifted pretty well but the trans in it sounded like it was out of an old Mack dump truck, noisy as hell. Then when you were idling at a stop light it sounded like marbles bouncing around inside an empty can. People in the the cars next to you at the light would look over and stare because of the noise. I had to get rid of that car after 7 months because I couldn't stand it any longer and no one could resolve the issue.
