Playing with Paint - Teaser
I have a friend who owns a body shop and has been playing with a few of my extra parts lying around. I wanted the supercharger lid painted shark gray but not like the ones you see online. He stripped the top coat of the back rails to match the center rails and grinded down all the raised blocks. Here is a preview of just the sanded, smooth, and first coat of paint. Of course it needs several more coats and the clear coat but here is a teaser. He also painted a small fire extinguisher to place on my passenger seat, fuse box cover, fuel rail covers, etc...

Paint holding up
I would imagine the paint and clear coat will hold up fine... if not, all the other companies that offer the painted lids might get a lot of returns. Eitherway, this was an extra lid I had so i will let you know

Well it has been over 2+ years and the paint and finish looks and feels brand new. I have been running AUTOX, roll racing, and about 100 drag strip runs...

I agree he did an awesome job. Plus I like the idea that is is truly a ONE OF A KIND. I am sending my car for another round of builds soon to include a new Maggie 2650R supercharger. I hate that I will lose this top showpiece as well as I had my coil covers matched by him as well. They are all the shark grey color on my 2015.

SO it did hold up to the heat with just automotive paint. I was thinking of a different cover, but might go your route and try the airblade and get rid of deadener plate... I think newer LT4 cover even has fewer lines to sand down. I think smooth carbon flash would be a good look for mine. Good write up. Thanks for the info and long term test, just happened by chance on your post..

Looks great. I like the smooth finish. I also went with Shark Gray but didn’t smooth out the lid.
