Default Temporary blue line on M7 tach display

If I shift at rpms at any point above 3,000 rpm, a momentary blue line shows up on the tachometer, indicating the rpm at the time of the shift. It seems to correlate to max rpm on a shift since a standing start, as it doesn't appear on the 2nd to 3rd gear shift unless I shift 2nd to 3rd at a higher rpm than the 1st to 2nd gear shift. It only lasts about a second, so there doesn't seem much point to it. I didn't try to see if this gets recorded with the PDR.

never noticed this on my 2017 m7 or haven’t paid close enough attention. Is there any specific performance mode or dash mode you have set it too?

It's not noticeable unless you can pick up the tach in your peripheral vision, or take a quick glance at it during a shift if there's no traffic around. I was in tour mode. The blue line shows up as the red line (rpm indicator) starts decreasing, but goes away after about a second.

It only lasts for about a second, and I drove the car quite a few times before I even noticed it, and I don't think it's mentioned in the owner's manual, at least not for the 2015 C7 Z06. The halo that surrounds the tach isn't mentioned either (apparently a shift and/or traction control enabled indicator).

I forgot to mention that the temporary blue line only shows up when rpms are at or over 3,000 rpm when I shift.

I saw it the other day, I swear I saw it on my shift from 3 to 4...I'll watch closely next time I drive.

I think it's only in Sport or Track mode where the shift indicator will be displayed over 3000 rpms

The shift indicator is the yellow halo that surrounds the tach. There may be an issue where the halo triggers early if the engine is not warm at start up (once the engine is warmed up, you may have to shut it off and start up again for the halo to trigger at the proper rpms, but I'm not sure).

The blue line I'm talking about shows on the tach itself, like a second tach needle, except it only seems to appear on a shift (or any decrease in rpm) once rpm is above 3000, and it only lasts about 1 second.

The halo and the blue line show up in all modes (wet, eco, tour, sport, track).

Did a test last night on the way home from work. The little blue line is the point where you shifted over 3000 rpms and is in any mode.

I have an A8 and see this anytime my shift occurs above 3000 rpm in manual mode. I don't need to use peripheral vision as it appears on the HUD. Not sure whether the line is blue or not.

I forgot to mention that, it appears as a small blue line on any of the HUD options that include a tachometer display. On the actual tach, it is about the same length as the red tach line.

The small blue line is helpful for people who do track type driving. Used to in race cars you often didn't even have a speedo, but a big tach in your face and many of them also had an actual orange or other colored from the main needle color that would show the same thing...your max rpm. That was how you judged on track without all this data logging how fast you came out of a corner or your top speed on a straightaway. Now it's electronic.... Some were also used to see if the driver over-revved as well....

http://farringdoninstruments.com/tachos.html Here's some analogs with the red needle....stays for 2 seconds in auto mode and drops back so you can check your shift rpm without staring at the tach when you do.
