Default New Forgelines on the Z

As some of you may recall, I have been dealing with bent wheel woes. I bent 5 wheels and cracked one. Two of which I own up to a pothole but the others are a mystery. While I have a comprehensive wheel/tire warranty which covered the replacement wheels, it was limiting my ability to enjoy the car. I started looking into better wheels that would hold up more reasonably to the roads in my area and it seemed evident I would need to go forged. I've had great success with forged wheels on my other cars so that helped nudge me along. After deliberating quite a bit and speaking to many vendors, I ended up getting a set of Forgeline VX1R wheels in the factory fitment from CW4L. Gerry was great to work with and his pricing plus customer service really made this too easy to spend money. The guy must not sleep as I would shoot him a text at various hours of the day and had a response within a few mins. I chose the "R" version of the wheel as I do track this car so I wanted to make sure I had a good strong design to suit my needs. I'm sure the non-track rated wheel would have held up too but I didn't want to take a chance. The wheels were finished in carbon flash to match the rest of the cars accents. I didn't get a good sunny day to show off the metallic flake but I will do so soon if the weather plays nice (NJ - Winter).

I had the wheels ceramic coated with 5 layers of the good stuff. The wheels were almost too slick to handle haha. For those concerned about wheel/weights and tires holding on to the wheels, the coating was done after mounting/balancing. I know the car needs a bit more "low" but my driveway entrance wouldn't make that too fun.

Looks great!

So what happens when you replace tires, and also need to replace the wheel weights?

The wheel bead area was not coated so the tires will go on and off like normal. As for the wheel weights, the area where they would be mounted would just get a quick compound and then recoated when done. Easy peasy.

Looks good. Just swapped A/S 3s onto my stock rims. Will definitely be looking at Forgelines sometime around spring...

Thanks again guys. I also forgot to mention the "fun" I had trying to get the tires mounted. A local, "high end" shop had been handling the factory wheel replacements and had no trouble getting the tires mounted. I gave them the opportunity to put new rubber on the new Forgelines and they ended up tearing one of the rear tires on their first attempt. Thankfully the wheel was not damaged. They ordered a new tire, on them of course, and still couldn't get the tire on the wheel all the way. Not wanting to destroy another expensive tire or damage the wheel, they contacted Hunter to see if they could get some assistance. Getting in touch with hunter took almost a week and the install was at a standstill. When Hunter responded, they were less than helpful. With no clear end in sight, I asked around and found another shop that was comfortable doing the install. I grabbed my stuff, took it to the other shop and it was all done in less than 2 hrs. The cost was also cheaper too which was a nice surprise. The original shop was convinced something was wrong but in the end, it seems they just lacked the skill to do this although they did handle the prior wheel replacements with no issue.

Long story but I had the wheels are two different shops to get the tires installed. Both places were surprised with how light these were so you won't be sorry. Def give Gerry at CW4L a shout.
