Default M7 grinding when shifting from 1st to 2nd and sometimes from 2nd to 3rd...

This has probably been covered in the larger Z06 issue post but I could not find anything and I refuse to sift thru idiot posts that only show the poster ignorance.

Took my 2016 Z07 into local Chevrolet dealer for the 2nd time to fix the "Service Rear Axle" notification AND grinding of the M7 when shifting from 1st to 2nd. The first time the dealer replaced a fluid pump for the rear Differential. That didn't fix it. They dealer says they could not duplicate the grinding of the M7. I got the second "Service Rear Axle" notification about 3 weeks later when my wife and I were driving about 70MPH and the entire dash flashed twice with the Speedo, Fuel gauge and the SuperCharger pressure needles going to zero for about 3-5 seconds and then returning to normal with the "Service Rear Axle" notification that kept coming on over and over. I took it into the dealer again. After being told the dealer didn't have a loaner car, Lyft picked me up. The dealer replaced the Alternator this time. They also said they could not duplicate the M7 grinding. When I came in at lunch, they could not get any transmission technicians to ride along with me. I guess my issue doesn't rate too high in their concern.

I take very good care of my Z07 and never beat it to death. It is well cared for.

My question is what is GM doing about the grinding on the M7 when shifting from 1st to 2nd?

HELP.....

TIA,

Mark

Mark in the past I’ve had similar issues with a couple cars, both were the synchros in the tranny causing the grind. I had to replace them, and upgrade them before. Some have had out of spec shifters and or sloppy / weak components that caused your type of issue. People will say your not pushing the clutch fully to the ground but you don’t sound like your an amateur to manuals. Keep us posted. Any tranny work is a big job soo dealerships/shops try everything before they go inside the tranny.

I only care about C7 Z06/Z07's, not previous car/models. I'm 6'2". The Clutch is all the way to the floor. I tracked a ZR-1 for 6 years. That tranny NEVER grinded. It's a design issue from GM for the M7. I've been driving manual trannys since 1970 when I got my Leaner's Permit to drive and it was on my dad's Volkswagen after I learned on Johnny Jansen's 1963 Impala BelAir. I dare you to F with Johnny Jansen, the Junk Yard Dog........

Is this when cold or when the car is warmed up? Does it actually grind or do you feel notchiness in the shift lever? Why not accompany the tech and let him hear the grind?

Responses like OP's to your trying to help really make folks just want to jump right in with suggestions. The first sentence in OP's post should have warned you.

Another thing to mind is how are you gripping the shifter? Cupping it in palm or pistol gripping it?

My bad... I guess he doesn’t know other cars use the same Tremec tranny, many with the issues I mentioned for years.

This and 1 thanks from members in nearly 900 posts, despite being an “instructor” everywhere in no particular order, should have told us how this is going to go...If he is an instructor, i’m sure the level of service is stellar
