Default Engine temps

Hey guys,

Need to compare some numbers.
Car has a 160* thermostat and heat expansion tank grenatelli.
Lower IW 18% pulley LTs intake meth.

Regular driving noticed on highway cruising my engine temp sits at 203 to 208. Oil temp 190+.

Anyone else experience this. I swore when the car came out of shop temps were in the 180s all around.

Air temps here have been pretty steady around 80 during the day and low 70s high 60s at night. Car is at 203+ regardless of time of day. I've also noticed the fans kicking in a lot more lately.

Should I be concerned? A buddy said his car sits at 150-170.. 😲

First you need to understand a thermostat does nothing to increase cooling capability. It just sets a point where the coolant is allowed to pass to the radiator to cool off.

So your car has zero added cooling capacity for engine cooling temps. It just is set to start cooling the liquid at a lower temp.

Your buddy is wrong about 150-170 with a 160 degree thermostat. His car will heat up to 160 and then as long as he has enough cooling capacity, it should open the cooling loop and stay at 160. Not lower.

With all that said, there's a chance your thermostat is failing to open at the right temperature if it ran cooler in the same ambient temperature and running conditions

Yes I understand that. And thank you for explaining. But my point is the car I feel shouldn't reach 200+ under normal driving especially on the highway with my setup.

I did buy an extra thermostat so I will change later today and see if it helps.

You should be crusing around 175-180 with a 160 thermostat and the tune set up properly.

I ran 160 stats in 05 C6, 08 Z06 , and 09Z06.All had forged motors. They all ran on the highway at 180. No issues. My 2016 Z06, M7. With 2300 maggy, kook long tubes , 5% lower, AFE , x tankand tuned with a stock stat runs on the highway between 179-186. In town never seen over 197. So I’m trying to rap my head around these numbers you’re posting. My oil temp is low 180-195.
from what I’ve seen in my car your numbers seen a little high. I also run mobil1 5-50 if that makes any difference don’t know. I live in so calif

got my stocker from the old parts drawer, popped out the center piece and replaced it with a 160* thermostat center. Seems to be working as it should again, 170-180* temps.
