Default Ceramic coated headers

In the next few weeks I plan on doing the following modifications on my 2015 Z06:

  • 18% lower pulley
  • American Racing headers with high flow cats
  • Upgrade to Gates green serpentine belt
  • New Plugs
  • Oil change 0W-40
  • Tune

Question: I spoke with Louie at American Racing and he didn't feel there would be any advantage to have the headers ceramic coated. My tuner advises it would be a good idea to help with temperature control.
Comments would be appreciated.

My Z06 is in the shop now getting some work done. After discussing it with the shop manager and shop owner, we pulled ceramic coating off my original wish list.

I've seen the coating flake off after awhile and also look like new years later. Personal preference, really...

With ARH, make sure you also purchase GM OEM gaskets.

My build:
AFE Intake
Katech 103
Ported Blower
15% lower
ARH 2" long tubes - catless
NGK plus, MSD wires and heat sleeves
Catch can
100 Octane switched tune
Trans and Engine Tune

I had mine coated with Jet Hot coating. I think it keeps them looking better but then who is looking under the hood for the color/finish of the headers. Will it reduce temps, yes. So will driving as ambient air moves through the engine bay. Heat kill power and electronics but I doubt you would see any change in performance at the track with or without coated headers.

It might help out on some back to back passes but generally its not gonna add any power or anything. On LT4 cars every little bit helps though. We charge $300 for silver and $350 for black. It looks better then the standard steel finish and it does keep temps down some under the hood. When you're ready to order hit us up. We have great deals on everything on your list.

I used Swaintech, and it's amazing how cool they run.

Worth every penny unless you like melting wiring harnesses. The noticeably lowered underhood temps don't hurt either!

It didnt, because I painted over it with Black high temp paint. LOL.

Swaintechs coating looks awesome initially, but it isnt meant to be cosmetic. Its purely functional and does an amazing job (significantly more so than spray on ceramics) Before accepting your order, they will tell you that the finish will mar and discolor easily, is porous and may grow crystal like structures etc etc.

Thats why I sprayed over it. Any time in the past that Ive used header paints, the paint finish will peel after a couple heat cycles. Ive also sprayed over jet hot that had dulled with similar results. This time? The header paint looks brand new. That in itself tells me the coating is working. You can grab a header pipe after only a few minutes of cool down and subjectively, the cabin tunnel is cooler as well. I paid about $800 to get everything you see coated. 3 week turnaround.

Theres another company in the UK called Zircotec that also has some badass coatings that can be ordered in an array of colors without some of the pitfalls of Swaintech. However, when I priced things out, they were over $2500 for the same parts.
