Update: The Z is at another dealership to get a second opinion, selling dealer's request. We'll see how this goes.

Went to selling dealer right after, showed both quotes, GM is calling me tomorrow. Definitely been a pain, I'm starting to feel like just having them fix it isn't enough.

Obviously no help to OP after the fact, but this is an example of why getting a good PPI done by a knowledgeable person is critical on these and similar cars.

Anyone with basic CCB knowledge would have flagged those on quick inspection. I’ve been looking at some Pcars with CCMs and it’s one of the first questions I ask.

Agreed, not to mention it's illegal for a dealership to sell a car in that condition.

The car is at my trusted local Chevy dealership getting front pads and rotors. Selling dealership agreed to pay for everything. Phew..

You should also go buy a lottery ticket -- it's your lucky day !! Most selling dealers presented with a bill like that would tell you to go pound sand -

Great they are covering it -- best of luck with the new ride.

Agreed, I'm surprised they took care of me but it was either the brakes or them taking the car back. What they did was illegal.

Hi,
is it really necessary ? the procedure seems complicated ! it must wear out the pads even more, right ?

If you are only ever going to drive it easy on the street, then no. If any performance driving or canyon carving is on your list, then it is recommended.

The dealership said they burnished them but I may go out and do it myself. I won't be tracking the car.

Look at the pads, if they are burnished correctly, they will be chalky white around the edges. If that isn’t there, then it wasn’t done correctly.

If not going to the track I’d leave them unburnished...they’ll still perform excellent.

If you decide to burnish, follow the procedure and monitor the progress. Some have been too aggressive and discolored their calipers.
