Default Upper pulley question

Hey guys, I'm thinking about swapping my 2.3 upper pulley to a 2.175 pulley. What is the best way to get to the tensioner bolt to remove the belt? A socket will not fit with the ABS unit right in front of it. Just a long 15mm wrench? Also, I've heard the stock belt is fine for this smaller pulley. What do you recommend? Thanks!

Rock Auto 14 bucks. https://www.google.com/search?q=PERF...hrome&ie=UTF-8

You probably wont be able to get a full swing so go as far as you can then pry the belt half way off a pulley. Release the tensioner and get another bite on the tensioner nut with the tool or wrench. Now you will be able to rotate the tensioner to the full stop and remove the belt.

The original belt will work. It may or may not slip at high rpm.
This one is slightly shorter and gives you a little insurance against high rpm slippage. You can cross reference it to other belt makers if you like. https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo...=4971096&jsn=1

Thanks man.

That Gates belt is actually still a little longer than my factory belt though. The factory belt is 85.118 and this Gates K080850HD is 85.375

Just use a long wrench on the pulley tensioner.
I’m using the factory belt with my 2.175” pulley and had no slippage during my recent dyno runs.

Good to hear about the belt. I think I'll get this serpentine belt tool. Seems like it will allow better leverage. Thanks man!

Did you change any fueling to run your 2.175 upper pulley? I have a flex fuel sensor and tune to run up to E40-E50 but I'm sure this pulley will lean it out a little?

I was definitely running lean before the dyno tune. I’m still just using 94 octane fuel available here in Alberta (has 10% ethanol)
I have a ported blower/snout, AFE intake and 95mm throttle body along with my 2.175” upper pulley.
I was thinking of adding a flex fuel sensor but E85 is not available where I live.

Have you had your car down the quarter mile? What is your AFR at?

I haven't had it down the strip yet with the new mods/tune. I need different tires though as I can't get any traction at our local track, I was spinning 3/4 of the way down the track with it stock...
I believe the AFR was tuned around 12.0 on the dyno with the O2 sensor in the tailpipe. I have a wideband to install, just haven't got time to install it yet.

Good info! I’m currently running the stock belt with a 2.38 pulley. Could just squeeze it on with fasterproms thermal plates installed. I’m currently running e50 with a kong ported blower, port matched LT5 TB, Norcal cat delete pipes, Borla catless x-pipe with BBE bi fusion axleback, Cordes 5” CAI, halltech ram air duct, 160 t stat and a NX blower lid. With 2 volts added to the low side in the tune, the psi is still holding better than it did before adding voltage on pump gas. High 50’s at redline. With pump gas it was holding 70psi across the board after adding voltage. I think I’m going to put my JMS voltage booster on along with a 2.175 pulley. Should be perfect.

OEM is equal to the K080852 which is equal to the gates https://www.gatespowerpro.com/Comerg...ctID=855298852

Shops are recommending the K08055 which is longer. https://www.gatespowerpro.com/Comerg...ctID=855298855

The K08085250 I recommended is shorter. https://www.gatespowerpro.com/Comerg...ctID=855298850

Effective length in the description is the key.

Trust me I have been down this road, wasted a bunch of man hours to end up here.
