Would wheel bend issue stop you from buying a Z06 ?

Bad *** rides and all, seen you post these maybe a dozen times now. How about lowering those corvette 4x4's? Funny you posted a pic of an SUV, they all have about the same wheel to fender gap! LOL

No, I wouldn't let the bent wheel news stop me. I don't think the occurrence of bent wheels is high enough to warrant calling it an issue. It is just something that occurs to some cars. The likelihood of it happening on a Corvette Z06 isn't any more likely that it is on any other car that is driven the same amount. Just like flat tires it falls into the **** happens category.

Bent a rear wheel two weeks ago on my 2017 Z06, after driving sports cars for 30 years and never ever have had a bent wheel. Yes, it's beyond frustrating that this is an issue with a car at this price and performance point. If you drive the car on normal roads there is a high probability you'll bend a wheel. The way these wheels bend it is hard/impossible to repair them also, so $800 for a new one from GM. Agree with most that it should NOT prevent you from buying the car, it's amazing in so many ways, but expensive to own too. Buy and drive it. You'll love it.

Two bent wheels once, it happened the same time. With that said I am very happy with my Z06. I don't have wheel insurance and I keep $1000 in my account in case it happens again. I will say that it happened a couple years ago and I now have11,000 miles on the car and it never occurred again. Mine are silver wheels so they cost about $500 each and would not stop me from buying a Z06. When I was shopping for a Z06, it was in 2016 with all the overheating concerns and I still purchased one. Still an awesome car and the best one I've ever owned !!

My dealer told me the wheels can bend. They wanted to sell me wheel insurance and I first thought it sounded like a scam but after research I learned more about the issue. I bought the insurance. About 9 months later bent a wheel and the impact cut the tire sidewall so that incident more than paid for the insurance.

You will know when it is shaking, like a really out of balance wheel. I saw that my fender on the bent wheel side was shaking really bad. It will not drive smooth as glass but really shaky. Some bend very slightly and others more severe. You should know by the car shaking like a wheel out of balance. Hope that helps.

I did have the issue and am STILL very happy with the car. I just replaced the rims with something stronger and went on my way. Every once in a while I look at buying a different car but I just can't do it. Nothing like it for the money.

You can easily check for a bent wheel. You will need to jack up the wheel in question, and you will need a dial indicator. Jack up the so it will spin free. Put the dial indicator against a smooth surface on the outside of the wheel and spin the wheel slowly. The dial should move no more than .010". Repeat for the inside of the wheel.

550 Miles on my new Z, I hit a pothole at 50+ on I94 in Detroit. I was hoping nothing damaged until I sped back up to 60 or so; If the car wasn't brand new it would have shook the dust out of the dashboard. Damn -- it was bent pretty bad and not repairable. Tire fine, wheel replaced.

I would not let something "that" might happen stop me from buying a great car. I've bent rims on my other cars......of course I did hit some huge winter potholes that came to life during the warm days of a very cold winter. One of those hits, took out the tie rods on my daily driver.
