Default Need some advice from the experts

I have owned and loved my 2015 Z06 for about 4 years, it has 7800 Miles and is a Z07 Black on black with the 3LZ package. I hardly ever drive it because of my work schedule so I decided to look at trading it in and selling it. The car is in flawless condition minus a few minor scratches from general use (nothing deep). CarMax offered me 53k for it and Fletcher Jones MB offered me 54.5k$. Is the market really this soft for this car, or is this a really bad time to sell it?

I love the car, I just hate having things sit and not be used when someone else could potentially use it more and get more enjoyment out of it. I don't need the money, so this isn't a rushed decision. What do you guys think?

Southern California Car FYI

Sounds like you're looking for retail numbers, which is understandable. Why don't you list it in Cars.com and some of the other internet used car websites. I've sold on them twice (Cars.com) quite quickly and got very close to high retail numbers, certainly better than the offers you've quoted. Just remember, your car is now 4 years old and that will affect the value.

2015s with low miles going for 63-66 right now. I'm currently buying one for 62. Basically same car as your but 14k miles. There's a buttload of autos on sale. Manual z07 not as many.

Take it to Carmax and they'll examine it closely and give you an offer. Then you can decide what to aske for it on the open market.

Those are trade in prices and realistic. If you are no hurry, then just list it on Autotrader or CarGurus and sell for retail pricing. I’d list it at $65K and negotiate from there.

Both comments are spot on. The CarMax offer is a real wholesale cash offer that they give you in writing good for 7 days, not a book value. It will approximate what a dealer will offer. If you are trading in for a new car the new car dealer will certainly match CarMax and maybe will go higher depending on the other side of the deal. When I sold BMWs and MINIs I always told my customers to check with CarMax first before coming to a dealer for a trade value. If you know what a real wholesale price is you can price yours accordingly or trade with some level of confidence in the real value. Last fall I sold my low mileage, perfect condition 2010 BMW 535xi M Sport. Got a value of $11k from CarMax, added $3k to that (about what a dealer usually ends up making in gross profit on such a car), advertised it on the local Facebook Marketplace and sold it in one day with three buyers lined up behind the first. Maybe could have gotten a bit more but I was happy with the result. With the higher value of your car I am sure you markup over CarMax should be greater than mine. By the way in about ten years of selling new and used cars at my dealer the highest margin I ever saw achieved on a used car was $8k on a $35k (retail price) car and that was very unusual. Just well bought by the dealer. And for the record, all sellers are usually over optimistic (and unrealistic) about the wholesale values of their cars, and equally unrealistic about the price they can get a new car for. I have always said that a really good car salesman is simply an expert manager of disappointment. --Bob

I looked at a 15 Z06/z07 manual, comp seat, 3lz, suede, etc... car a few months ago. They were asking 65k. I dont remember the miles.

I would say your numbers are 8-10k low from the retail side, but probably not out of line on "trade in" numbers.

I would try to private party the car.

In Houston, privately they are going for over 10k more, Manuals even higher in the ZO7z.

Yup, retail figures... Post it on here, cars.com, carsguru, autotrader, etc., and you should get 8-10K more if it’s as described.

In april 19 I sold a 2014 car to max, they gave me $15.5k and marked it up for sale to $21k. (NOT a vette) so you know how they markup. Carmax has 22 z06, 8 of them '15 zo6 for sale, 1 with 7k miles 1 with 9k miles, either for 59,998.

There is a new 2019 Z06 feeding frenzy as GM piles on the incentives and dealers order and unload them to qualify for more c8 allocation. Cheapest z prices i've seen since dealers are ordering base models and lowballing them out the door for less than $70K

Say you can wait, why not sit and wait this temporary incentive-driven market out. OR put it into service and recoup utilitarian service from it. Personally I love turning a Z06 into a RennSport for only a $7995 Z07 option check, and got one so equipped. But I also understand how little value that option has on the resale market to future Z06 buyers. (Maybe if GM had called it the L88 edition?)

I couldn't wait, wanted a new Z07 and had to unload my c7 before the used market tanked further.

If history repeats itself c4's are in the trough and selling for $5K and under, c3's are on their way up again. SO C7's have a quarter century to fall BEFORE they rise again. UNLESS ( you believe the greatest LIE i've ever heard) "THIS TIME IT IS DIFFERENT"
