Default Tires

Decided to go and price tires for my 16 Z06. The original tires have 15,900 miles on them.
In route to tire store I get a dash warning, low tire. It was down to nine pounds when I pulled in to a gas station for air.
I filled it and limped home and it was under 10 pounds when I arrived home. I can hear a leak, but can not find it.
steel cords showing on inside of the front tires.
So I’m pricing on the phone and will air up and limp to a tire store.
I don’t track/race. Just a casual driver around town.
Any reason to not get the same tires as the originals, Michelin Pilot SS which are a run flat.
How far can one drive on a flat run flat, is 10 miles doable?

MPSS are a very good summer tire, they are on my car and I like them. There are cheaper tires out there, however they don't have the dry traction that the MPSS have.

My 2 cents

Just replaced mine with Michelin AS3+. Great tire, quieter (at least when new) and better traction when the tires or the air temp is cooler. Also not as sticky so not as much debris thrown up onto the sides of the car.

Since you said cords were showing you definitely need an alignment after the new tires. MOST folks DO NOT buy tires from a Tire Dealer. Look online at Tire Rack or Discount Tires at least to get a example of a good price before letting a dealer rip you off. Some car dealerships will do a “PRICE MATCH “ with some restrictions such as your price must be in writing or within a certain distance. Good luck 🍀

The owners manual say that you can drive for 50 miles at 50 MPH with zero air pressure. 10 miles is no problem.

The a/s 3+ should at least double the treadlife from the original super sports, can be driven safely in temperatures below 40 degrees F. The A/S means all-season tires, the SS are summer only. And they are runflat too. DO get an alignment to street use, z06 also have a track alignment setting to provide more grip, at the expense of shorter treadlife.

Another as3+ fan. For a street only tire it's the way to go. Love mine.

I heard it's hard to feel/notice punctured tires or low tire pressure tire is that right? Since it's runflat it's hard to notice it? Until the warning in dash comes on or you look at the tire then you will know? Never got a flat tire so just wondering about it when I get a flat later on the stock runflat tires.

How's a/s 3+ on road course? Want to get into road course track days later.

I never noticed that the tire was low or flat until the dash warning told me it was low.
Last mile or so when I limped home, dash warning said pressure was 9psi. I was driving 40 mph or so and could not tell there was a tire issue.

Yeah that's what I heard, runflat it's hard to tell when it's punctured or low tire pressure. I guess we will just need to check the tire pressure once awhile. thanks

The A/S 3's are great tires, but just keep in mind that you are sacrificing some high performance handling for the all weather and greater tread life. If you don't track or drive "spirited" you probably won't ever miss it, but if you do anything timed or really fast on the road keep in mind if you have those tires on there. JMHO

OP, you don't need to be particularly careful with the tire as it is corded. You can probably drive a long time on the tire before it falls apart. It is a run flat and will run without air for a very long distance (literally would have to wear all the way through the cords to the point the sidewall separated from the tread). The 50 miles at 50 mph info only applies if you want to repair the tire, if you don't care about repairing you are only limited by the tire's durability when running un-inflated with cords showing. Although you do have to be a little more careful as the steel cord doesn't have as much grip as the rubber in the dry or in rain. However, the rest of the tread will still provide a fair amount of grip for driving on the street as street drivers don't push their tires anywhere near the total capability of the tire.

The PSS ZP is a great tire if you want to replace with the same tire you have now although you may have to have the alignment tweaked a little to reduce the chance of the inner tread cording. I suspect you need a little more toe in than what you have now although you could have negative camber reduced a few tenths along with adding slightly more toe in.

Bill

Just got done pricing replacement tires for my 2017 Z and tire rack has the AS 3 tires which are run flats for $1,290.88 with free shipping. They also include a 2 year road hazard warranty.. They are about $500 less that the original tires.. I don't track the car so it shouldn't be a problem. I agree that you may want to look into having the alignment checked it will save you money in the long haul. I have almost 13,000 miles on my original tires so that is why I started shopping around for pricing. Be careful to be sure the installer has the correct equipment to change the tires. Standard tire changing machines can do damage to your rims if they don't have the correct equipment.

Good Luck!

To bad they don’t make the A/S3+ in our size in a non run flat. I’d be all over it. Who knows maybe the MS4S could come out in our size in non run flat MAYBE
