But you're in NJ, so why don't you come and show me how to drive my car. Come to the track, I'll pay for your track fee but they will probably put me in your car as your instructor. I'll buy you dinner of your choice if you can beat my lap time.

I already knew the answer before watching the video!! lol
And what was that rattling?? lol
My old '16 doesn't rattle like that. Maybe your camera setup i hope??

When Ford wanted to add 53 hp to their Ford GT, from 647 to 700hp, they added the following:
When Chevy wanted to make the Z06 cooler, they raised the back of the hood and added 1 new radiator (manual only).
There are dilettantes and there are race car builders to the general public. Not too hard to figure out which camp Chevrolet pitches their tent in.
Ford GT Mk II
A new roof-mounted air intake looks awesome and feeds the auxiliary clutch, engine, and transmission coolers. There's also a new high-capacity air-to-air outboard-mounted charge air cooler that automatically sprays water on the charge air cooler at high temperatures to maintain a consistent high power level.

Buddy... it's not a Honda. Shift. Use the torque that the blower provides and stop NJ using the engine revs to slow you down use the brakes.
It's a big displacement engine with a heat pump on top.
Learn how to use the car for what it is.

Yeah it was the camera setup. I was trying something new and it totally boned me. Won't happen again.
@16/C7Z I replied in the comments of the video as well but let me put it here too. I actually did try short shifting and using the car's torque instead. But I consistently got a slower lap time by about a second than if I did it the way I did in the video. It did however, last the entire session. But this wasn't a test to see if the car would overheat when driven at 9/10th's of the limit. And 1 second may not sound like a lot but this is a short track (1.35 mile) so every second here is an eternity.

Sick video.... I live a few minutes from Englishtown raceway.... I signed up for the last track day but had to miss it for work. How was your manual z06 on the englishtown track.... I am worried about taking my z06 there.... I was wondering if i will ever really get out of second gear? Deff going to try and get my STi there by the end of the year! Hope to see you out there!
If you go, do let me know. I am there pretty often as I live about 10-15 minutes away.

Would you have teach him how to drive it any different had the car did not overheat , or you’re teaching him how not to overheat it ?

As others have said, it is for drifting,go-karts, Miatas, etc.
That track may not be a fair test of overheating, but the car should not overheat period!
Why not make the drive down to NJ Motorsports park for some REAL track time?

I was at that "track" the very 1st day it opened. I never desired to go back, and I live 15 min away as well.

I fell in love with that Corvette that day even though that owner ended up getting rid of it for a manual because he kept overheating it as it was not understood that you couldn't leave that car in drive and run around that track one was hot out.
Just ordered a 19 automatic it should be in sometime late August.
Went back and forth Buying the manual but for the amount of track days I would use it for it would be a waste especially because I'm 2 hours away from that track I only wish I lived closer. So roll racing and Drag Racing is what I do I wouldn't waste my time on that Englishtown course with this car

Love your videos. Always an art. Your Auto will overheat the coolant in a regular track. The short track doesn't provide enough air to the trans cooler, at higher speeds the trans cooler will do fine but the radiator then can't keep up.
Btw the 2019 auto has a thicker radiator. So there was SOME improvement.
Look into the Dewitt's thread. Should be your next upgrade. If you don't want to mess with the oil cooler (pain in the ***) then just get the trans/coolant combo.
Also ignore the short shift comments. Obviously you were testing if the car overheated. It does. It's as stupid as the many many comments we see here:
"I have never overheated my Z06 on track" while the driver is in the green group running 15 seconds behind pace at 55 degree ambient.
Btw your manual would overheat in one of the southern tracks too. Anything in Texas basically.
It is what it is. AMG GTS can run forever and not overheat. Stock mustang GT. The same. Zl1 the same. Anyone that defends the Z06 overheating problem is in denial.

Interesting video and analysis. I have an M7 Z06/Z07, so I don't have a horse in the race, however I do agree that our heavier Z06 cars really aren't designed for the shorter tracks. IMO, it's only when you can get on a track and can stretch the legs and get your top speeds up near 150MPH + on the straights that the LT4 really kicks in.
As to shorter tracks, I've driven in a corporate sponsored Miata-only track event where the top speed was about 110 MPH but the car was an absolute blast to drive as it felt like I was driving a go-cart on steroids. I would never consider owning one for the street, but it was a fun car for one day.

Just because it doesn't "feel" at home doesn't mean it won't be fast. Just like how people say "oh yeah miatas are the fastest autocross cars". That's just blatantly wrong! Corvettes always top the autocross charts. By SEVERAL seconds over miatas. 911 GT3 and GT4 right there with them. GT4 being a car known for its absurdly long gearing.

People say this but the 650 ft lbs of torque is GREAT in a short track. Sure it feels like overkill but it will run a faster lap that any of the lower hp "small track" cars.
