I was having a lot of trouble getting a proper 0-60 on my Z06. Best time was 3.7sec. I was starting to feel like I needed new tires or I just plain old suck at launching this car. I tried all the steps from here on the forum and youtube like using tour mode and trying a gradual peddle acceleration. I saw that most people didnt have good luck with lunch control either. So i initially avoided trying it. Nothing was working and a lot of runs were 3.9-4.1 secs. I was starting to feel like GM strait lied to me on the 0-60 specs. I tried Launch control on a hot 90 deg socal day and had three consecutive runs of 3.2-3.3 seconds. So i Guess i just suck at drag racing and should just let the computers do the work. Given how I dont have the Cup 2 Tires and my MPSS are not new nor was I on a drag strip I feel like I got really close to the specified 3.0sec 0-60 from the GM website. FYI I have never driven the car with Cup 2 tires. They were removed prior to me purchasing the car.
Listed below is the specs of my setup for other users reference.
2016 3LZ, Z06 with Z07. Bone stock Engine, A8, MPSS tires w/ 5k miles. Track Mode Sport 1. Used Launch Control.
how did it feel with launch control? all of the videos I've watched made me not want to try it. did you just dump the clutch, or if not, what was your technique?
*edit* thought you had a m7, but just re-read that it was an A8
thanks for sharing!

Looks like you got the hang of it. In reality the numbers that auto manufacturers use are done in the absolute best conditions and prepped track. For us normal folks if you can get even close your doing good. 0-60 is mostly traction these days. The fast cars are the ones that hit 100-150 quick. Your Z is fast 👍🏻
I did 0-60 in 3.5 with LC, I had to quickly engage at a light in 90 degree weather with the AC on in my 2018 Z06 A8 Convertible with Base Runflats. I didn't even have time to go through the modes so I ran it in Wet Mode.
I've only tried it twice, both in the same conditions and in Wet Mode, 3.5 both times.
I need to try it in Sport or Dry Mode without the AC on.
Update - Did a 0-60 in upper 80 degree weather in sport 1 mode, no ac on, 1 time and got a 3.4
3.2 and 3.3 on launch control are really good numbers, congrats...btw what do you consider a "hot" socal day? lol...no humidity and not like a Hot central Fl. day I would guess so actually not a bad day for the SC. Fyi, the 3.0 sec. numbers you see posted by Motor Trend for example are done with Pro drivers in race/track mode without Launch control w/the Cup 2 tires of course (yes they make a difference, I had the Porsche spec Cup 2's on my 997 TT and you could feel the difference) and MT's electronic launch monitor also allows a one foot roll, so the published 3.0 MT time is really not a standing start. As to Chevy's published 2.95 sec time, who knows where they pulled that rabbit out. 3.2 is damn good...well done.
I doubt the MPSS tires really got hot enough to achieve peak grip driving on the street, even on 90 SoCal day. I find the heat / grip after a few laps on the track is higher than anything I can achieve on the street.

Best Launch Control 0-60 Time
Your Thread gave me the itch to try the timer out on my c7z m7. No launch control rolling off the throttle at 1100 rpm first try I got 3.1 zero to 60 — car was luke warm. I should have took a picture. Second try 3.8 and third try 4.2. Then tried 0 to 100. First try 6.9. Second try car was hot 210 degrees coolant temp 210 and You could feel it Peter out. It was 7.7. I would imagine on the track with oil up over 240 these things really slow down. But I guess it’s better then most of what’s out there.
The best times car was at 180 degrees coolant temp and oil at 160.
Is there any way to call the history of the timings back? I would take a picture of that 3.1 and frame it and hang it up in the garage.
i was in tour traction control off. Temps were 90 degrees and tire pressure at 34 all the way around.
i have no more interest in using the timer. I feel chevy advertising was close enough. For one hero run while the car isn’t at full operating temps.

hey Giz.... further evidence your Z06 is not running properly.... i have video of an A8 with the top off and passenger in the car, running on less than ideal hwy pavement (paved a long time ago) and the car ran 3.5 to 60 - 7.1 to 100 - then at the IMMEDIATE next light after coming down.. car went 3.6 BUT 7.0 to 100.. back to back 80f weather.. the car doesn't drop off like that.. in no way..
example 2 - i've done 3 back to back to 60 pulls 2 3.5 and one 3.6.. top of 95f-100f weather last month.. heat wave up here for a week ... while on blue tooth having this discussion with a friend trying to convince me after we test drove a new 911(they are turbocharged even base), that it would be more consistent than the Z06 with blower...
fastest i have ever seen was a 3.3 w/LC. always comes down to traction as LC cuts the throttle until it feels grip.. not heat related. car on a dragstrip runs a low to mid 2.3-2.6 to 60. plenty of reserve power with video proof of them. stock.
just pointing out an alternative observation with PDR to back it all up.. did you use the pdr?
I have been able to get to 2.50 with MT drag radials on the street.
I was able to better that to 2.40 on the same tires at the strip.
My Z06 is modified but most of those improvements occur after 60 mph. It has taken me a couple of years at working on getting it down to that. You can even see my cable going across the steering column where I had HP Tuners hooked up while working on it. You can improve with more seat time and use air pressures by changing small amounts of psi at a time.
I think I was able to get my reg MPSS's down to 2.75 and I have Cup 2's on my 19 ZR1 and have been down to 2.66 on those. Just don't give up and after some more practice you will be able to surpass the launch control times.

3.1 seconds to 60 is pretty good for an m7
6.9 seconds 0 to 100 is reasonable for an m7 with non cup tires on the street.
Maybe it’s the intercooler on my car. My opinion is After these cars get to operating temps they all go slower. The serious racers ice down the supercharger between runs.
I didnt have the Pdr on. I was using only the dash timer.

yes, that's very good for an M7 without sticky tires imo.. we have no newly paved roads around here i could safely pull it off.. always crap roads and no access to drag radials at the moment.. as has been said always comes down to traction when you have that much Hp/Tq available....
Gizmo.. get that car checked for pump cavitation..
