Default Magnuson 2650 advice

I have been thinking for some time about a SC upgrade to a Magnuson 2300 or 2650 on my 2016 Z07. Primary reason is cooler charge temps plus flexibility for additional now or HP later. I have pretty much decided the 2650 makes more sense. I am currently making 776 RWHP on the ported stock blower on 50% E-85 and a dual nozzle meth setup and other supporting mods. A few questions for those who have already done this. First off I am not looking for a 900 to 1000 RWHP car as my usage is 99% street with occasional trip to 1/8 th & 1/4 mile. I guess a short list of what I have already done will help with you guys not having to ask about about this later.
1. Cat delete downpipes. (no intention of going to LT headers)
2. Cooling upgrades including Cordes heat exchanger for intercooler, 160 degree tstat, intercooler tank plus several others
3. low side fuel upgrade
4. AFE intake
4. 95mm Mamo ported TB
5. BT stage 2 SC cam, springs & retainers, push rods and lifters
6. Dual nozzle meth kit
7. Catless mid pipe
8. stock dual mode mufflers
9. dual fuel upgrade for E-85
10. 18% lower pulley with stock size griptech upper pulley
Plus driveline upgrades on my A8 car. The current setup makes 14 pounds peak boost. All of these upgrades were done by Weapon X except the cam install and they did a good job with the car.
Some of my questions are:
1. Does the Magnuson 2650 have a pulley that can be changed later without pulling the SC?
2. Since I intend to keep the lower 18% overdrive lower pulley what size upper would you suggest for a modest at this time upgrade in HP & TQ?
3. I am also looking at a big Cordes intake with possibly a 103 TB. Any input on this?
Thanks in advance for any input from the more experienced here.

I am not that experienced but have done lots of reading in here as well as Camaro6.com, and I am planning a similar upgrade next year. Here are the answers to your questions

1-Yes. Griptec already sells those
2-Mag 2650 ships with 90mm upper pulley (80mm is optional). I would stay with 90mm upper/18% lower. This should get you 15-16 psi
3-CPR 5" intake with 103mm TB should be worth at least 30rwhp in your build. If you decide to go with this route, you should order your Mag 2650 with 103mm air inlet as by default it ships with 90mm inlet

Subscribing. I’m not looking for 1000hp either. The 2300 is probably the cheaper route to 750-800rwhp. However the 2650 would do it easier and more efficient. I do like the simplicity of the 2300 swap.

Although it is not a Corvette, I recently installed the Magnuson 2300 on my 17 ZL1. It was a really easy installation. If you shop around you can get a good deal on the 2300. I'll probabl ydo the same on the Z06 that I just purchased.

Agreed. I’ve done some research and it’s a simple swap with the stock blower. Uses all the stock connections. One can also be had for under 4k if you watch the deals.

Very true. I paid under $4k for the one that I bought. Makes the decision a no brainer by the time that you sell the stock blower.

Thanks guys keep the replies coming. I had intended to order the 2650 with the no extra cost 103mm snout. So far I am not finding enough difference in pricing between the 2300 & 2650 to not justify the difference. The larger snout on the 2300 is a add as well as the upgrade cover. The 2650 can be ordered with a 103mm snout at no additional charge and the fit kit has provisions for the coil relocation. My ported stock blower was done with a 103 mm snout and the adapter was ported by Weapon X to match the 95mm TB and the 103 mm snout on stock blower. The difference in cost between the 2300 & 2650 is not a consideration for me just the best and most efficient application. I am also going to upgrade the the stock radiator as well to a Cordes before I go with the bigger blower to better deal with the additional heat.

If your going to consider more mods in the future you'll want to go with the 2650. I've had both and the 2650 is much more capable, lower intake temps and will make a **** load more power with your mods. We have many Zl1s and Z06's over a 1000 hp and you can easily make mid 8's. I'm on just 15-16 psi and mine SS made 852 and I ran 9.41@146 w/1.35 60ft. and 5.99@119 1/8 miles, 3900 weight with driver. My intake temps are about 25 degrees lower with the 2650 going thru the traps which means more power on the big end. We are only running this blower at about 18,500 rpms and we can run it up to about 24,000 if we want, I was turning my 2300 about 20,000 rpms and only making 770 rwhp. So basically on the same motor we swapped the blower, still running one nozzle of meth/water, make some fueling and timing changes and made 82 more rwhp and went from running 9.80s@140 to the 9.40s@146 but I've run 149 mph on a slightly slower pass. We could run 9.20s but at the end of the year we couldn't get the car to hook on the small tire with the cooler air since it was making more power then in the summer months when we ran the 9.41. I have an 80, 75, 70 mm pulley from Griptec. I've only run the 80 and 75 since my low side fuel system won't handle the extra boost the 70 will make until I add the DSX this winter. So yes Griptec has all the pulleys you'll need. The 103 NW would be my recommendation along with our 103 snout.

If you are already in the 776whp level and want more, go with the 2650. There is no doubt it gives you the room to increase boost anywhere between 800-1000whp. Where you stop is your call...but if you go with the 2300, you are basically going to be in about the same power level you are now with better heat control. To me, 2650 is the no-brainer.

I am going to keep my 18% lower Innovators West pulley. Can you give me a estimate of boost level with the standard (90mm I think) blower pulley and the 18% lower? Are the pulleys installed at Magnuson a hub type or pressed on? I want to stick with the griptec pulleys because of quality and ease of change out. The stock ported blower and 95mm TB are making 14 # boost now and I would like to start out with 16 #. What upper pulley size would you choose? When I do this I have decided on a 2650 both for the cooling and the extra headroom in the future.

Nope, 4 bolts and your good to go. I do have a 90 and 80 Magnuson for the street but 70, 75 and 80 Griptec for drag racing. Probably an 85 or 90 with your lower and some will depend on the elevation where your live and race. The higher the elevation you'll see less boost so one size doesn't fit all and compression, bigger bore/stroke, ported heads, larger diameter primaries, no cats all affect boost levels. The Heartbeat 2300 pulley's will not work on the Maggie 2650 Heartbreaker, the offsets are different on the top pulley.

Who in MO did your work and tuning? Considering another blower swap. Getting 870whp with my 2300 and other supporting mods. Wanting 1000hp now. Thanks in advance.

Another couple of questions for for you experienced 2650 guys.
1. Is there any need for a speed density tune on a C7 Z06 with the 2650 making 16 to 17 pounds boost?
2. Does the car need a 2 bar sensor at this boost level?

All our SCs are based off HP Tuners programming and I make 15-16 with no problem. We have some others making 18-20 with ease it just can your fuel system keep up with that boost and not drop to much on the low side. I'm only running the blower about 18500 rpms so only running the blower about 65 percent.

I keep seeing this more and more,
no intention of going to LT headers
in the C7 world. Is there a reason so many people are against this mod? I'd think a FI application would want the exhaust moved out as efficiently as possible

NOT trying to stir up anything or hijack. Just curious.

For NA cars tuned headers are "good", on FI cars having a tuned exhaust to help evacuate the exhaust gases is not as important as having enough exhaust volume/flow. Being the intake air is pressurized it pushes the spent gas out of the combustion chamber and does not have to rely on a tuned header vacuum effect.

PS: I seem to remember when they first started putting headers on the 'stock' C7/Z06 years ago. The cars lost HP at first, so they had to tune the stock cars just to get the HP back to the stock output level and if they were 'lucky' after the tuning (No Warranty) they may of made "just" a few more HP at best.
