I have searched the threads but could not find anything. My 2016 Z06 redline started lowering today after refueling. It went to full redline like normal after startup but once I got gas it lowered back to between 4800-5500 redline. I shut the car off for a bit and then the same thing happened, went to full redline and then came back down. I tried Sport, Track and Eco modes and the same thing happened. Could it be a bad batch of gas or is there something else that would cause this? I did put 93 octane in.
What is the coolant temperature? Sometimes with an aftermarket thermostat in or if the thermostat has gone bad, the coolant temp will stay too low and will give the lower redline.

Good question. I’ll have to check next time I drive it.

Looks like you nailed it! The temp has been hovering around 150 or so. It bounces up and down and so does the redline. Taking it to the mechanic to verify.
Now that winter is here, every morning my Z06 does that. I let it idle a little and by the time I am a few blocks down the street the red line is moving up as the heater is warming me up in the cabin.
Thanks for all the info. All the dealers and my regular mechanic are completely booked until 2 weeks out since it is season here in SW Florida so I will keep an eye on it and get it to the mechanic as soon as I can. I did notice when I was looking in the engine bay that the previous owner upgraded the air intake to an AFE intake so I am wondering if maybe they put in a lower temp thermosta. It only recently got cool so maybe the car was just staying warm enough that it did not present itself until the temp dropped.

Put your display into mode which displays numerical engine temps. It's right below the info selection on the left side of the display. If the engine temp is not over about 178F the redline does not go to full scale.
Still waiting for my appointment with my mechanic but I am starting to think it may be a sensor issue. I have been watching the coolant temps and it is pretty erratic. Temp goes up and down every few seconds and then will hold steady for a bit. Temp never gets over 180 but the car may have an upgraded thermostat since I just noticed that the previous owner upgraded some things (I have only owned the car for 3 months.) I tried finding the sensor but have no clue where it is.
