Default Tire wear and stage 2 vs 3 aero

On street, I'm running essentially stage 1. While I like the look of stage 2, I really think of it as a functional track look.

My thoughts are should I get the stage 3 winglets for the front and the clear wickerbill. Stage 1 really roasted the tires so I'm not running stage 1 anymore on track and have noticed a benefit of the grip of stage 2 along with it cooling the front tires. I look at stage 3 and the winglets seem to work against the cooling gain I got from the stage 2 tips. It seems stage 3 to me doesn't divert air to the front tires like the stage 2 tips do.

Just musing to the track enthusiasts out there on their experience with stage 3 aero.

For track driving I would think that the more downforce you have the better for the tires. I suspect that more downforce = more grip = less sliding of the tires. Sliding the tires is what really eats them up. FWIW

That was my reasoning as well. I'm on break from a transplant and am spending a ton of time thinking about track time once recovered.

Hang in there. From here it sounds like you're making progress. The weather will be a little nicer for track activities in 30 - 60 days. Hope you are back in the car.

The stage 3 end caps on the front spoiler provide a lot of downforce, a lot of drag and a fair amount of cooling air to the front brakes. If you have the GM improved brake ducts that came with all 2017+ Z06s along with the wheel blockers included with the iron brake cars you should get a lot of cooling air pulled through the front rotors and exhausted out through the wheel spokes. The large end caps help provide a low pressure zone alongside the wheel which improves air flow through the rotor.

I'm running the z06 cooling duct kit which came with the car. It made a huge benefit to brake cooling. I'll run stage 2 for now and wait for a used stage 3 set to come along or save it for next year's budget.

Just my 2 cents:
I'm not sure if I follow. If anything, additional downforce increases load on tires, which increases the wear and tear, not the other way around.

I am not questioning if you trashed your tires, but just don't see that stage3 would help it. A Viper ACR-X destroys its tires in one track day, and its tires are also quite heavy, especially at the rear (41 lbs each just the tire itself), since it has to withstand all that load. If anything, I'd think higher stages of aero would reduce the life of the tires unless you were in a death spiral of overdriving front tires perhaps?

my thought process is that when corering long sweepers the weight load shifts significantly to the outer tire. Additional downforce in the front would add some weight back onto the inner tire and shave off the load on the outer tire. The difference in stage one is significant where you will have a lot of tire scrub and even kick out the rear a bit.
