If it is showing at 5mph, I doubt that it can be balanced - either the tire(s) or rim(s) will need replacing. I guess it could be a flat spotted tire from a slide.
Lots of threads about bent and cracked C7 Z06 OEM rims. Seems the most likely,
I don't understand how you can have a wheel vibration at 5 mph. If you feel a vibration at 5 mph you probably either have very badly flat spotted tires or something else entirely. If that was a typo and you meant 50 mph, that's different. In that case I certainly agree that looking for bends or cracks in the wheel, or an out of round or poorly balanced tire. Go to a reputable tire shop with a Hunter Road Force balancer and an experienced tech. Preferably also a Hunter Revolution tire changer to minimize possible damage to your wheels. When I changed to A/S3s on the Z06 after 20k miles last year the tech noted my two passenger side wheels were slightly bent but was able to balance them fine so I do not notice any vibration. I also once had considerable wheel vibration with some cheap Sumitomos on my '95 ZR-1. Whomever had installed them, they mounted them all wrong; all tires had to be rotated 180 degrees on the rims to achieve some level of balance. One tire, however, was so far out of factory spec for roundness that it could not be balanced. Still the very experienced and competent tech got rid of about 95% of the vibration, good enough until I could put some Michelins on at Costco. No problems after that. --Bob
OK, not to bore you guys but I made an appt. to have my Z06 tires re-balanced. When I arrived, I was told they could not lift the car as they only had drive on lifts. (Not happy)
So I drove to another garage and was told they can lift my Vette with their 4 post lift but I'd have to make an appt.
The tech came over and asked why I wanted my tires balanced. I informed him of my vibration and the fact that GM rims are crap and known to crack.
He asked at what speed I felt the vibration and I replied it starts at 5 mph and get worse at 30-35 mph.
He said it can n ot be a balance issue but possibly a drive train issue. I made an appt for next week but when I got home I decided to take it to a Chevy dealer and have their Corvette Tech look at it.
That's another 2 weeks!
The first Tech looked up recalls or Tech Bulletins and said there were many but most for automatics. Mine being a manual, he said it could start with the 'snubber'.
Carnac is correct. I took the driver's side tires off, cleaned them and so no visible cracks. I brought them to a local shop and they fround the left rear rim bent!
Tomorrow I'll take the passenger sides in and see of either of those have issues.
Update, after trying to have the passenger side wheels balanced, they found both of them are warped! So that makes 3 out of 4 rims are warped. I called GM and was told they know of NO issues, recalls or Tech Bulletins. I asked the rep. if she knew of the Class Action Lawsuit and she replied NO.
