Default Differential issues

What is the hop hop hop or banging that is going on in the differential of my c7 zo6 when I turn the wheel to lock? Took it to Chevy and they said it is inherent because of the wide track. I don't buy it.

The front tires turn at different angles to each other to improve handling at higher speeds. So one wheels is dragging a little bit when you turn it. The run flats make it much worse. I don't have run flats and I don't feel it at all. I also have 18's though.

There is a warning tag about this in new cars and a mention of it in the owner's manual. I've noticed this even back in my C6 with more recent compound tires. I just avoid going full lock when driving my vette.

The same thing happened on C5 and C6. It might have occurred a few times on my C4 but I can't remember well enough to be sure. It never occurred on my two C3s. Not a big deal. It is the nature of the beast and nothing is wrong with the car so nothing to be upset about.

I never noticed it on my C4 ZR-1s but I did with the C7. Replacing the OEM Pilot Sports with all season Michelin A/S3+ZPs seems to have made the Ackerman effect less noticeable. --Bob

I only really notice it on my driveway because I park my other 2 cars on 1 side and I turn to almost full lock just after clearing the 2nd car. I've since stopped doing it on my C7 because the effect can be really dramatic.

It doesnt a hurt a thing, it is the tires skipping across the pavement surface.

The more aggressive the alignment the more it hops.
