Guys needing a little help. 2016 Z06 with 29000 miles. Car is completely stock. I went get car inspected and it failed because none of the emission sensors did not activate. I was told to go drive and come back. It took 3 trips and about 75 miles to get them all to pass. When I was driving I had the dash in tour mode and performance so I could see the temps. I noticed at idle my battery said 12.8 volts and it stayed there even under excelleration. Later I looked at it and it was sitting on 14.6 volts and stayed on that till I got home. I don't know if there is a problem with alternator causing the sensor problem or do I have a problem with the alternator. Ihave not put a voltmeter on the battery yet. By the way brand new battery.
Normal. Alternator output can vary between 12.8 and 15 volts or so. This prevents battery overcharging.
Charging voltage usually is high just after engine start and drops down as you drive and the battery is charged.
Emissions sensor status resets to NOT READY under a low voltage condition / dead or disconnected battery. They take several drive cycles to indicate OK. Also normal.
I have a 2016 Z06 bought new in April 2016. It sits on a lift and on a CTEK charger for three months in the winter. When I took it down in April of 2020, four years and 21,600 miles from new, it barely started with a weak battery, but did finally start. When I drove it, it consistently showed 15.0 volts for a long time, showing that the alternator was trying to charge it but not making much headway. It was like that for a day or so, so I decided to replace the battery. After replacement with a comparable but longer life Delco, it has been fine ever since and shows a more normal 12.8-13.5 voltage . --Bob

The gauge shows the alternator output voltage. The C7 uses a remote sensing circuit to keep the proper voltage level at the battery. Remote sensing accounts for voltage drops along the circuit and adjusts alternator voltage to maintain the proper voltage on the battery.
