Default Cordes 5" intake?

Hey guys, I'd like your opinion on the Cordes 5" cold air intake. It looks like a beautiful piece but I'm wondering if it's overkill for my set up?

I'm currently running a Halltech CAI, ported throttle body from Katech, off road pipes, Borla x-pipe, DSX flex fuel sensor (running around E40) and a 2.175 griptek upper pulley. My car has run a best of 9.8 at over 142 mph in the quarter, which I'm very happy about but we are never happy.

Thoughts.

No it would not, but what I learned with my Carbon Fiber Intake tube... you'll need to have it retuned again.. since sensor in a bigger tube.. unless maybe map sensor deleted in your tune already?

Unless your blower is ported and the snout is port matched to a 103mm TB, then no, a 5 inch intake isn't worth it. Personally, I prefer the Big Gulp 5 inch over the Cordes due to fitment. But you can't go wring with either one.

I also like that the Big Gulp doesn't require any cutting.

I just haven't seen anyone here with one or been able to see one in person.

Yes. Seems like a quality piece, but I've never purchased anything from them.

That's an interesting point. What is the diameter of the stock throttle body? I tried to measure the diameter of the Halltech CAI but I don't have the right measuring tool. It looks to be about 4".

Instead of going up to a 5" cold air intake, does it make more sense for me to replace my ported (stock) TB with a 103mm?

its not a 1 piece fixes all . more air needs more fuel allows for more spark. its a combination of the right parts to have the best flow.

Unless your Supercharger snout is ported to match a 103mm TB, no. The supercharger snout opening is about 87mm.

I have a Cordes intake and love it. The fit and finish is great. I have a 103 TB, along with heads/cam, etc and it works great. The cutting involved on the car is minor and you will never know it was done in the end. Rotofab wasn't an option a couple years back when i got it.

Yup the Cordes is a great choice. I've tuned many cars with the Cordes and it is just as good as the Big Gulp at making power. You can't go wrong with either.

At your current level you won't see much gain if any. If you were starting over it's easy to just snag ours up from the get go and be done. If you later port the blower then absolutely do the 5''. If you have any questions on it please don't hesitate to DM me.

Just an FYI for the guys who may not like the minor cutting required with CPR supplied filter (K&N 2805XD). Volant 5118 air filter is very similar in dimensions except being 0.25" smaller at filter top (4" vs 4.25"). I have personally compared them side by side, no cutting should be required with the Volant filter

That's great to hear. Thank you! I'll likely go that route then due to no cutting.

So Big Gulp and Cordes 5" is a push after your testing?

You can't go wrong with either one. Cordes did it first. The shop I tune for installs more Cordes units overall. You will gain nothing by ditching your Cordes 5 inch for the Rotofab 5 inch. I wanted to try something different and went with the Rotofab 5 inch on my personal car. Other than the MAF calibration being a bit different, I noticed no differences in peak boost. I will say our fastest 60-130 C7 Z06's all run the Cordes 5 inch. but we haven't tested the intakes head to head so take that with a grain of salt.
